US Art
Picture Submission by Megan Brochetti, 9th grade

Beginning Art is wrapping up their value unit, having tackled a challenging grid-enlargement project.  Each student created a pencil drawing that required of 140 individual squares of shading!

Drawing & Painting II students are nearing the completion of their trio of fruit pictures.  Each picture shows a realistic depiction of the subject, based on reference images they photographed.  The trio also showcases their proficiency in three very different mediums: colored pencil, watercolor pencil, and watercolor paint.

Advanced Art students are also showcasing their skills in realism with fun and whimsical candy still life works.

Music

Lower School Music classes continue to enjoy the sounds of the season and composing songs for autumn while we begin fusing rhythm and melody together in music notation for grades 3-5 and exploring the major scale and solfeggio for grades K-2.  5th graders should dust off and clean their recorders to being to music classes in the next few weeks to use for our recorder unit for the holidays beginning in November. 4th graders will have a special opportunity to order their recorders when we return from holiday break in January. All students in grades 3-5 have also begun work in our classroom piano lab and will be using this fantastic resource throughout the year! Ask your student about finger numbers, position, and the C Major Scale...

Our Lower School Chorus and Show Choirs continue to amaze in rehearsals and we look forward to sharing what we've learned at our upcoming performances!

SAVE THE DATES!
Lower School Chorus will perform at Chiristmas in Davidson on Thursday evening, December 4 and will have other performances through the season as well (more info to come as we tighten up details) and  Show Choir will perform on Monday, December 15, with more details to come.

Thank you,
