All,
Chief Mike Scott of the Hillcrest Fire Department (Raeford, Hoke County, North Carolina) was seriously burned in a fire and subsequent explosion yesterday. He sustained burns to his arms and face while fighting a woods fire near the Raeford Municipal Airport, not far from Fayetteville.
Chief Scott is being treated at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill. The fire was  reported around 1130 hours and started in unattended rubble and spread and destroyed nearby woods and a 10 x 10 aluminum storage shed. The shed was filled with equipment and flammable liquids.
A Firefighter was hitting the fire through a window, the Chief was standing near the shed door and another Firefighter opened it up which set off a violent explosion. Chief Scott's hair, eyebrows, whiskers and eyelashes were singed, and he has second- and third-degree burns on his arms. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, stabilized and sent to the burn center in Chapel Hill for follow-up treatment. The injuries are not life-threatening.
KHIYP's.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass It On.
