On May 26
th
, 2017, at approximately 11:25 am Copper Canyon Fire and Medical Authority was dispatched to a residential fire on Cliffside Trail in Lake Montezuma. Upon arrival they encountered a fire burning on the back deck of the residence that extended onto the back of the house. The fire also crossed the fence into a vacant lot which had grass and mesquite trees on it. The fire at the back of the house was quickly extinguished while the wildland portion was mostly extinguished by bystanders. Additional units arrived and completed the extinguishment and overhaul of the remainder of the fire. An explosion was heard by witnesses but no evidence was found and the cause of the fire was undetermined after investigation. All occupants were removed from the residence and there were no injuries to citizens or fire personnel. Suppression efforts were completed by Copper Canyon and Verde Valley Fire Districts.
