Let's Go  FISHing

It's January and time to restock the  West Knox Fish Pantry! FFUMC stocks  the pantry with partner churches  Faith Fellowship Presbyterian and  St. Elizabeth's Episcopalian for the month of February. Please bring your food donations (peanut butter, cereal, canned tuna or chicken) to the altar January 14-28.

On Tuesday, January 30, we need volunteers 9:30-Noon to unload the  Second Harvest truck at the pantry  (934 N Weisgarber Rd.)

On Sunday, February 4, and Sunday, February 18, we need volunteers to refill grocery bags at the pantry. We will meet  at FFUMC for pizza at noon and then carpool to the pantry. We should be  finished by 3:00 p.m.

You can sign up on Realm or stop by  the Missions table to sign up. FISH is a family-friendly ministry!  If you have questions, email Laura Derr or call her at  865-963-2701.
Next Event: Friday, January 19 - 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room.

We will have a short planning session for events for 2018, and then our own Judy Egner will give us a glimpse into how she became an author of many mystery novels. This should be a very interesting evening.

Coffee and desserts will be served. If you would like to bring a dessert to share, please RSVP by email Anita or call (865) 675-1415.

From the Pastor

The Church is going through some hard times these days. People are uncomfortable with too much talk about things like faith, commitment, and dedication. No one understands words like "worship" or "hymn."
So, with a coping sense of humor let me offer five hymns/songs for
the 21st century, and their appropriate translation for today's culture:

"A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" - A Comfy Mattress Is Our God
"Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" - We Kinda Like Thee
"Amazing Grace How Sweet the Sound" - Amazing Grace,
      How Interesting the Sound
"Great Is Thy Faithfulness" - Above Average is Thy Faithfulness
"Be Thou My Vision" - Be Thou My Hobby

Ouch! There are more, but I'll stop for now. What I mean to say is that I am amazingly awed by your faith, commitment, and dedication expressed at FFUMC. You are loving, generous, faith-full.

You have supported the ministries of Christ for 2018 through the
"I'm in..." operating budget campaign. Now it is soon time to renew our support through the capital campaign,  "We're all in..."  Details, food, and fellowship, are offered this Sunday evening. Supper will be served from 5:30 - 6:15. Former pastor Richard Edwards and his wife Sue will be with us to encourage and inspire. Please RSVP here.

Rather than the words and acquiescence of "Take My Life and Let Me Be," Sunday night let's affirm, "take my church, take this building, take this fellowship, take my family, take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee!"

Congratulations to Michael Gilhooly and Rachael Green on the birth of their daughter, Christine Anne Gilhooly. Christine Anne was born on January 2 at  8:03 a.m. and weighed 7lbs-7oz. Praise God for your new blessing!
Jeremiah in January - Tomorrow!
Jeremiah in January? Yes! The winter/spring study of the 52 chapters begins tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in the conference room 209. While some may see the book about the "weeping prophet" as filled with doom and gloom, Julianne Schoolcraft, one of the teachers, says, "No. Not at all. It's filled with hope and promise and the knowledge that God is ALWAYS with us." Good news indeed for the world we live in today.

Come join the Thursday Morning Women's Bible Study
and be uplifted.  God is calling you to Bible study. Listen.
He always provides blessings.
Ladies - You are invited to...
United Methodist Women's (UMW) Annual Tea on February 10, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Worship Center. We need ladies to host tables. If you have not been asked and would like to host a table, please contact Judy Westenhaver or Anita Oberdecker.

Did you know the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is charged to communicate openly and regularly with the church's pastors, staff and congregation? With the start of a new year, the membership of this
important committee has changed.

All members of the church are encouraged to address their questions, concerns and suggestions to any of the committee members:  Randy Belles (Secretary), Judy Bensey (Vice Chairman), Andres Cortes, Robin Herrington, Tim Hill, Lynn Kirchner, Tara Mallison, Jim O'Brien (Chairman), Cookie Spillers, Molly Veness, and Sandi Wilkins.  Pastor Don and Associate Pastor Chuck are also members of the SPRC.

Contact information for the SPRC members is readily available on Realm or by calling the church office (966-8430).
