Video Volunteers Needed
We are looking for a new team of volunteers to video tape Sunday sermons at First Pres. This requires no previous experience, just a willingness to serve. Training will be provided. We are hoping to start videotaping with Pastor Kellen's first Sunday, July 2. If you are interested, please contact John Norton, Communications Coordinator.
Food Pantry
It's August and that means back to school. PRC, anticipating this annual phenomenon, is asking for healthy snacks for school children like small individual cans of fruit, packets of crackers and cheese, pretzels, etc. They would also like size 2T-5T children's diapers,pull-ups and nutritional cereal and peanut butter.
The Interfaith pantry would like adult diapers of every size along with whatever food products you would like to contribute.  They are also still in need of personal care items like toothpaste, hand soap, shampoo and conditioner, and women's personal products.
FPC Book Club
Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult is our FPC summer book club read for August. Grab this book, sit back and enjoy this page turner.
Then join us on Thursday, August 31st, 7:00 p.m. in the Parish House living room for fellowship and great book discussion.

IRA Rollover Distribution
The IRA Charitable Rollover Contribution continues for those who are age 70½ or older.  If you are in that age bracket, you may make a distribution of up to $100,000 directly from your IRA directly to the church without being taxed. If you have not already taken your required minimum distribution in a given year, a qualifying rollover gift can count toward satisfying this requirement. Contact Jan Buscher for more information about making a contribution to First Pres with your IRA.
First Pres Hosts Presbytery Meeting
We have an excellent chance to provide hospitality to members of the Presbytery of Chicago on Tuesday, September 19th from 4 to 9 p.m. when they meet here for their regular meeting.   We (YOU) are needed to welcome and greet delegates, check people in, sell meal tickets, help with the dinner meal, and to attend to the parking requirements of a large gathering.  This is going to be a festive, fun celebration of who we are, and you are cordially invited to be part of the welcome party!
Please email your interest in helping to Sue Hervey
or call 630-682-4603.

If you have a Troop 23 Boy Scout in your family, please ask if he would be available to help shepherd people to meeting rooms that day.

This is definitely a "more the merrier" sort of event for which you will be awarded a stunning FPC t-shirt and lots of laughs to say nothing of the thanks from those people we assist.  If this is something you'd enjoy doing, please let us know ASAP!  And thanks!
Halverson Benediction Prints
If you ordered a print of the Halverson Benediction/We Welcome You before July 26, they are now ready for pick up in the church office.

High quality copies of all the print designs are still available to order: 8x10 prints are $20, and 11x14 prints are $25, and a high quality copy of the We Welcome You Print is also available; it is 8 1/2x14 for $25.00. We will place the additional orders around August 28 th and email you when they are ready.

You can order these HERE. To download the order information click HERE.

If you are out of high school, and between the ages of 18 and 25, this might be the group for you! Come and Kick the CAN (College Age Network) with us! We need your new college address to keep in touch. (Parents, you can submit your student's mailing address!) Perks to joining will be: your church continuing to be in touch via letter, care cards and care packages, and holiday break gatherings to renew or build new friendships!  We look forward to journeying alongside you through these college years. Please send your 2017-2018 college address to Nancy Goodwin  or on Facebook - College Age Network.

Hands, Feet and Hearts at Work
School "Daze"
It is hard to believe that it is time to start thinking about school.  Once again, we ask our congregation to help provide school supplies for the K-12 Zomi students of our refugee Zomi Congregation. Please bring them by Sunday, August 13.
The first request is for backpacks to carry school needs.  The second is for school supplies.  A list of the required supplies is available at the information desk.  We will have boxes for your contributions in the rotunda.

Our hands, feet and hearts have been busy this past week. Through the efforts of our members this past week, we were able to provide fresh vegetables to the food pantries; school supplies for children of PADS and Bridge clients (25); started preparing backpacks for the Zomi children; and participated in packing over 32,000 meals for Feed My Starving Children. All in all, a good week for for us to share in showing God's love and care for His children.
If you have questions, contact
Gwen Henry .
