The Big Cover Up Weekly Update

We are currently halfway through our three month campaign of the Big Cover Up.  We are also halfway to the amount that is needed.  With a strong initial start, contributions are beginning to slow.  For those who have broken their payment into three payments, we are grateful that you will see us through to completion.

Warm weather is trying to make its way to our area.  We would love to begin work on the roof as soon as the weather cooperates.  An additional $20,000 will be required once work begins.  Will you help us complete the job by making a contribution?

Many employers offer contribution match programs.   Employee matching gifts are donations a company makes to match its employees' charitable contribution. Employee matching gifts are typically at a dollar-for-dollar rate but some companies donate even more. Your contribution has the potential to be doubled through your employer.

Gold envelopes are still available in the pews. A check made out to PPPC with a note "Roof" may be sent or placed in the offering plate. If you prefer electronic giving visit our website.

We also want to thank the over 50 people who have already made contributions towards the roof.

Dinner Plans This Week?

All Presbyterian Women are invited to nourish, refresh and refill your bodies, minds and spirits by joining other PW for dinner on Wednesday, February 21st at Frankie's on Rt. 35 S. right here in Pt. Pleasant at 6:30 p.m..

Make some new friends, share a good meal and give yourself a spiritual lift! This "dine around" is usually scheduled on the 2nd Wednesday, every other month, at different local restaurants.  However, this month the date has changed due to our Ash Wednesday service and Soup Supper on the 14th.

If you know ahead that you can join us please call Maggie Giase at 732-295-0908 or Lynn Hahm at 732-920-7133 to let us know and we can reserve space, but if you don't know till the last minute just come anyway! We'll make room! Mark your calendar and we'll see you there.

Being Faithful during Cold and Flu Season

With cold and flu season in high gear, please keep in mind what your mother told you to do: cover your cough, stay home if you're sick, wash your hands. We want you to share the love of God, but not your cold or cough.

During the Ritual of Friendship please respect those who have legitimate health concerns.  Why not consider using sign language for wishing Peace to your neighbor.  The ASL sign for peace is a very easy movement, kind of like a handshake with yourself. Plus you really are saying "Peace."  A big welcoming smile with your greeting is always appropriate.

Hand sanitizer is available in the Narthex.  Please consider using the sanitizer upon entrance for worship.  Tissues are also available upon entrance and in the sanctuary.  An usher will gladly offer you assistance.  Please be sure to take your tissues with you when you leave.

New Beginnings Next Weekend

Join us next Friday night and Saturday morning for New Beginning Leadership training.  This training is for those who have volunteered to be leaders and hosts, as well as for anyone who is interested in hearing what the New Beginnings staff envision for our church.   No prior registration is needed.

During the training, the New Beginnings staff will make sure each leader is comfortable in the understanding and implementation of their roll.   It is our goal to offer the congregation a variety of times and locations for New Beginnings meetings, since they are key to our transition and future. The more leaders and hosts we have, the more successful the implementation of the program will be.

A host conducts a New Beginning meeting either in their home or at the church. As a host you would be asked to provide a simple setup of space and refreshments.  Leaders of  small groups lead groups of less than 8 people in specific discussions. Both hosts and leaders cultivate a welcoming and friendly environment where people can feel free to share in the future vision for our church. New Beginnings meetings will tentatively begin in March.

New Beginnings  training will take place in the Church Friday February 23 from 7 to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, February 24 from 9 to 3:00 p.m.   Light refreshments and lunch on Saturday will be provided.

This two day meeting is set up so that the Friday night meeting will be an overall orientation of the program, while  the Saturday meeting will provide leaders with all the details that are needed on how they can successfully conduct planned New Beginnings meetings.

Baptisms  To Take Place

Do you want to have your child baptized?  What a wonderful time in the life of your family. Baptism is not simply a festive ceremony Sacrament of Baptism . It is much more!  Baptism is a Sacrament in which the family reaffirms their faith in Christ as Savior, and promises to raise their child in the Christian faith.  The congregation here at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church also makes a promise to God that they will assist the parents in the raising of their children in the faith.  It is because of these promises, the  child being presented for Baptism, ordinarily has at least one parent that is an active member of the congregation.

Parents may join our church around the time of their child's baptism. We encourage everyone to attend our new member classes, or inquirer's classes, which are held several times each year. These classes are an excellent way for newcomers to get to know our congregation, as well as our faith.

B aptisms will take place on Sunday, March 4 and on Sunday, May 27th at the 10:00 a.m. worship service. For more information, please call the Church Office.

Sunday School Update

Hello everyone!

Last week, we had a great time learning about love! We read through  1 Corinthinans 13:4-8 and talked about what the Bible says about love. After we learned all about love, we did a super fun craft. Our 1st-6th grade friends made a sun catcher and our Pre K/K friends made a sun catcher card for someone special. Then we had a great party where we were treated to Jersey Mike's Subs and chips from our church friend Mike Manzo! We are so grateful to Mr. Manzo for such a generous donation. The kids LOVED it!

This week, we will be continuing through our study of Mark. We are going to be looking through Mark 5:21-24;35-43. We will cover the time when Jesus healed Jairus' daughter in front of a crowd that assured Jesus that He was wasting His time because she was already dead. Much to everyone's shock, Jesus healed the girl and she arose. We will use this to discuss how valuable children are to Jesus and out congregation as a whole.

See you all this Sunday!
Peace and Blessings,
Tricia Stoffers
