Five Pillars of Ministry & Leadership

At their 2016 retreat during the interim period, the Vestry organized our existing groups and committees for effective leadership and ministry, in order to be more clear about all that happens here at St. Peter's.

Banner will present St. Peter's news and events within the Five Pillars:

We welcome all who are drawn to the warmth and friendliness of this congregation or to the elegant simplicity of our beautiful worship space. St. Peter's seeks to be a place of life-giving joy, service and healing in a fragile world.

Music Notes for Sunday, August 6
The music for Sunday was chosen in accordance with the Feast of The Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ. This is when we see the glory of God revealed in Jesus and we are told that he is to be adored, worshiped, listened to and obeyed.
Our hymns set to music texts that paraphrase, interpret and teach the lessons appointed for this day. The processional hymn is a hymn of praise to God made manifest in Jesus Christ. The hymn at the Gospel procession was written by Brian Arthur Wren (b. 1936), an English poet whose work is published in most contemporary hymnals of all Christian denominations. Of "Christ Upon the Mountain Peak" Wren writes, "It makes little attempt to probe the imagery or historical 'placing' of the transfiguration story, but retains some validity, perhaps, in its atmosphere of worship and adoration."

Get the Best Seat in the House!

You are invited to sit in with the choir on Sunday mornings during August. Just arrive in the chancel by 9 am on any Sunday to practice the hymn that we will sing at the offertory:
Aug        6      "Fairest Lord Jesus"
Aug      13      "Take My Hand, Precious Lord"
Aug      20      "It Is Well With My Soul"
Aug      27      "Guide My Feet, Lord"

Please join us for a different way to participate in worship.
It's fun up here in the chancel!
As the Psalmist says . . .
Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

The Chancel Choir will NOT practice on Wednesdays during the month of August.

July Worship Attendance and
YTD Financial Support
Both attendance at worship and financial support of the church's ministry are two of several ways to gauge participation in the life of St. Peter's.

Participation in Sunday Worship (Averages)
July 2017 Average                      123                   (June: 175)
2017 Average YTD                     206
2016 Average                             204

Monthly Financial Update
Both contributions to the church and our expenses have monthly and seasonal variances. Summer is certainly a time when people get behind on pledges and plate giving decreases as our attendance drops. A gentle reminder to please catch up if you are behind on your pledge.

Altar Silver Restored
Beautiful silver is used on the altar during services at St. Peter's. The pieces are lovingly cared for by the Altar Guild, but some damage had occurred over time. The lids to the bread boxes had become dented, making them harder to fit; the cross atop the ciborium was bent, leaving it at an awkward angle.

Last week, members of the Altar Guild took the damaged pieces to Anderson Jewelers where artisans not only repaired them promptly but refused to accept payment for their work!  Next time you need a jeweler, please check them out and thank them for their generous donation.

To the Glory of God
Our altar flowers are dedicated each week to the glory of God and upon occasion to a parishioner or friend as well. If you would like to make a donation in memory of or to honor a loved one on an anniversary or a birthday, in thanksgiving for someone or in honor of a special occasion,  please click here to sign up

It is very helpful for us to receive these requests online, as many people are involved in making this ministry happen. It's fast and easy for you, too!
If you prefer not to sign up online with your flower request, contact Liza  Henderson at 912.598.7242 or

As part of our thanks, we are collecting for a purse and will present that to her on the 27th. Checks can be made out to St. Peter's with "Liza" in the memo line.

Her successor, Amanda Ridberg, will work with Liza for a few days and then begin officially Monday, August 14.

Calling All Runners, Walkers, Sponsors, and Volunteers!

The 5th running of the St. Peter's Kilometers 5K/10K race and Kids' Fun Run is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, October 14, and we need your help.

All proceeds from the race will go to support Family Promise (a.k.a. Interfaith Hospitality Network), a local non-profit organization that works to alleviate homelessness among families with children by providing emergency shelter, meals, and comprehensive support; and Heads Up Guidance Services (H.U.G.S.), a local non-profit organization providing professional counseling and vocational guidance to all who desire growth, specifically targeting disadvantaged citizens.

The Kids' Fun Run will begin at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K and 10K races will begin (together) at 8:30 a.m. The 5K and 10K courses feature beautiful scenery around Skidaway Island. If you would like to run or walk the 5K or the 10K, you can sign up here.

If you don't wish to run or walk that morning, we would love for you to volunteer with registration, finish line support, or as a course marshal (golf carts welcome!).

In addition, you and your family or business can support these two great organizations as a race sponsor.
To volunteer or to become a race sponsor, or if you have any questions, please contact race directors Jim Brawner at 912. 257.9680 or Ann Searcy 912.604.1817.

Coffee Cups for Coffee Hour
We've recently installed a brand new dishwasher in the Parish Hall kitchen, making it possible for us to quickly wash dishes and decrease our use of disposable cups and plates at coffee hours and receptions. One problem: we don't have any coffee cups.
Since most of us probably have collections of random cups and mugs, we're inviting parishioners to bring those in and we'll start putting them out for coffee hour. There's a table set up on the east wall of the Parish Hall.  Drop them there. Once we have a significant number of them, we'll start using them on Sunday mornings. Thanks!
St. Peter's Prayer Ministry
Ask for prayers for yourself or others by submitting  this simple form. As the form indicates, you can ask for the whole congregation to pray in church for you or others by name. Or you can choose confidential prayer; only clergy and prayer guild members will be given your prayer information.

You will also find prayer request cards  to be used for this purpose, in your pew card racks.

(If this request is for another, please be sure the person wants to be on the prayer list.)

We do appreciate responses when the situation changes or when you want to remove names from either prayer list. To do so, please contact the Parish Office at 912.598.7242.
