Fitchburg Public Library Seeks Board Member

The Fitchburg Public Library is seeking a person to serve on its board to ensure that the business community remains closely connected to the library and its programming. The library board meets on the third Wednesday of the month after work about 10 times per year. If you're interested in contributing a few hours of your time to your community, please email Marcie Rekowski

People Sought to Serve on City Commissions

The City of Fitchburg is seeking people interested in serving on a City Commission, such as the Parks Commission, Police & Fire Commission or Transportation & Transit Commission for the next two years. The time commitment is approximately one two-hour meeting that convenes about eight times per year. To apply, download the Mayoral Appointment Application and submit to Marcie Rekowski.

Capital Jazz Fest on April 25-28
The Madison Jazz Society will present its annual jazz fest at the Quality Inn & Suites and Candlewood Suites next week. This event brings a lot of music-loving visitors to Fitchburg. This year is the 25th anniversary of Jazz Fest. more info

Bring the kids out to test their biking skills on the skills course! Kids can meet the Fitchburg Bike Patrol Officers, decorate their bikes and ride in the safety bike parade. Refreshments, prizes & giveaways will be available. This is a free event but registration is requested. register here
1. Always try to be in the group of people not moving, it puts you in control and means that you don't have to get up after every chat allowing you to be more composed during each meeting (they are quite intense).
2. Try not to make your pitch sound like it has been scripted. The best pitches are from those who tailor their pitch to the other speed networker, if you're first to pitch this can be difficult (see next point).
3. Try to go second; this will benefit you in two ways. You will understand the other speed 
networker's business and whether you have anything to offer them. Another benefit of going second is that your pitch is more likely to stick in the other speed networker's mind because they will be focused on you rather than their own pitch.
4. Have lots of business cards and ideally a leaflet that clearly lays out what you do. Some people resort to writing on bits of paper. It's best to write a few key words or phrases on their business card if you can! read the rest of the list
