A message from:
  Five Oaks' Board of Directors
Greetings!

Five Oaks has been a beehive of activity since our June AGM. We assisted in filling up and financially supporting an interfaith/intercultural youth camp, facilitated by GO Project, Islington UC, and the Arab Community Centre of Toronto. Our weekends have seen a great diversity of users, and as the weather heats up it's good to know that Tom has the pool ready for all our visitors!

On the staffing front, Pegi Ridout is our supply Operations Manager, as the Board's HR team has worked diligently through the hiring process, seeking  the perfect fit for the permanent position. The team concluded it's work this week, by successfully securing an excellent candidate.

With great enthusiasm, we wish to announce that Michael Shewburg will join our Five Oaks team as Operations Manager, commencing August 10, 2017!

Most recently Michael served as Program Coordinator, Canada Program, People in Partnership at the National Office of the United Church of Canada.  Prior to this role, he served as the Minister to the GO Project, a ministry of Islington United Church in Toronto. Strong program management was key to the success of both these ministries within the church.  As the Canada Program Coordinator, Michael developed opportunities to connect global partners to communities of faith.  As Minister to GO Project he grew this congregational based program to a multi-site national program for children, youth and young adults.

Michael is a Designated Lay Minister in the United Church of Canada and understands the importance of lay involvement in the church and beyond.  He has been a strong supporter of Five Oaks over the years, taking part in offering leadership in a variety of programs, as well as participating in programs. He is delighted to bring his experience and enthusiasm to the role of Operations Manager, as he upholds the new vision approved by the board and members.  Michael lives in Paris on an organic farm with his family, loves the outdoors, and being involved in creating intentional community.

We look forward to Michael sharing his gifts and skills, in team with staff and volunteers, to serve each person who arrives in our sacred space with radical hospitality.
