The process of creating or reviewing an estate plan is an activity that is easily set aside and delayed until "another day". At the same time, a properly drafted estate plan will inevitably save your family and the beneficiaries of your estate significant costs, inconvenience, and even heartache. While there is always "no time like the present", the month of October presents several unique advantages in moving forward with your estate planning process, which we can usually complete within a very reasonable time. Some of our most satisfying and effective estate planning work occurs in the fall, and most notably in October, when circumstances permit greater structure in our lives. We recently analyzed some of the reasons for this phenomenon, and list some of these reasons below.

1) The kids (or grandkids, nieces, and nephews) are back in school, and the inevitable time and energy ass ociated with keeping them occupied and happy during the summer months is behind us.

2) Long blocks of vacation time are now in the rearview mirror, with hopefully fond memories, and therefore the fall season provides longer uninterrupted periods to organize your perspectives regarding a proper estate plan and to meet with relevant professionals.

3) Activities that are associated with warmer weather, such as trips to visit family, overnight stays, entertaining into the evening, etc. have begun to wane.

4) The major year-end holidays have not yet begun, with all of the planning, shopping, and activities associated with those holidays.

5) As the final months of the calendar year approach, planning for year-end financial activities such as gifting, tax planning, and addressing related financial issues is ripe to be considered and addressed.

At McAndrews Law Offices, our Estates and Trusts Department can assist any family with the development of appropriate wills, powers of attorney, medical directives, and the full range of issues which can confront a family such as elder law planning, special needs planning, and guardianship. Our website provides many articles of great interest in usefulness to families in assessing their estate planning needs. The questionnaires on our website require relatively minimal preparation to allow us to initially assess your needs, conduct a meeting with you on an informed and expedited basis, and to promptly assist you in the development of an appropriate estate plan in a cost-effective manner. Our basic fee schedule is set forth on our website so that our clients can assess, and hopefully recognize, the reasonable rates that we charge for highly professional services by experienced and skilled attorneys. Finally, our website includes a great many testimonials from satisfied clients regarding our work on their behalf. We look forward to assisting you this fall!
