I know it's hard to believe but there are members of our community who do not know about the museum. So part of my job, and the job of volunteers, is to try and make our presence known and let people know what a great asset we are to the area. Our goal of attending these events is to increase attendance at the museum and also to increase awareness of our local history.
With that goal in mind we have been searching out opportunities to promote ourselves. In January we set up booths at the SE Volusia Chamber of Commerce Business Expo and then the following Saturday at History-Con at the Museum of Arts and Sciences. In March and April we will be continuing our outreach program by attending several local events. On March 12 we will be in St. Augustine attending the
Minorcan Heritage Festival. This will be a great opportunity for the museum to network with descendants of the Turnbull Settlement. On March 19 we will have a tent at the
Edgewater Riverfest that will take place on Riverside Drive. Finally on April 2 we will be joining our friends at the Marine Discovery Center for
Lagoonacy. Will we see you at one of these events? If so, please be sure to stop at our tent and say hello.
If you know of an event that is coming up and you think it would be advantageous for us to attend please feel free to reach out and let me know.
See you at the Museum!

Florida Archaeology Month 2016 Thursday, March 31, 2pm |
Join us as we celebrate
Florida Archaeology Month by welcoming Kevin Gidusko from the Florida Public Archaeology Network. Kevin's topic will be "Visualizing the Unseen: Technology in Archaeology".
Over the past several decades new technology has been increasingly used by archaeologists to visualize archaeological features beneath the surface without invasive testing. Ground Penetrating Radar is one of the most popular of these geophysical survey methods. This presentation is geared for adult audiences and discusses GPR operation, gives case studies of its use, and discusses the wider realm of technology within archaeology with a focus on future applications.
The Florida Public Archaeology Network's mission is to promote and facilitate the conservation, study and public understanding of Florida's archaeological heritage through regional centers throughout the state, each of which has its own
website.
