Everglades Mangroves Worth Billions in Fight against Climate Change
When it comes to storing carbon, a team of researchers led by scientists at Florida International University have put a price tag of $2-$3.4 billion on the value of mangroves in Everglades National Park. This reflects the cost to preserve the park's mangroves and their ability to hold organic carbon intact by restoring freshwater flow to the areas that need it most. More >
Nature Already Dramatically Impacted by Climate Change, Study Reveals
Global climate change has already impacted every aspect of life on Earth, according to a new study led by Brett Scheffers (UF). "Genes are changing, species' physiology and physical features such as body size are changing, species are shifting their ranges and we see clear signs of entire ecosystems under stress, all in response to changes in climate on land and in the ocean," said Scheffers.
