Awards Season
Floyd Valley Healthcare has had a great beginning to 2018.
Floyd Valley Healthcare was recently named one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States by The Chartis Center for Rural Health. The iVantage Health Analytics' Hospital Strength INDEX® is the industry's most comprehensive an objective assessment of rural provider performance and its results are the basis for many of rural healthcare's most prominent awards, advocacy efforts and legislative initiatives.

The Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals play a key role in providing a safety net to communities across America.  The INDEX measures these facilities across eight pillars of hospital strength: Inpatient Share Ranking, Outpatient Share Ranking, Cost, Charge, Quality, Outcomes, Patient Perspective and Financial Stability.

Floyd Valley Healthcare has also been named as one of America's Best Hospitals for Obstetrics by the Women's Choice Award®, America's trusted referral source for the best in healthcare. The award signifies that Floyd Valley Healthcare is in the top 17% of 2,720 U.S. hospitals offering obstetrics and one of only 13 hospitals recognized in Iowa.

The methodology for the America's Best Hospitals for Obstetrics is unique in that it combines national accreditations, Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results and hospital outcome scores with primary research about women's healthcare preferences. It is the only award recognizing excellence in obstetric services based on robust criteria that consider patient satisfaction and clinical excellence.

Quit Being Whiney &
  Take Care of Your Hiney
March is Colon Cancer awareness month. And while we like a good colonoscopy joke as much as the next person, there's nothing funny about the fact that colon cancer affects one in 20 people. Up to 90% of colon cancers can be avoided, but 1/3 of adults skip their colonoscopy.

Evaluate your risks:
  • A personal or family history of precancerous colon polyps or colon cancer
  • Reaching age 50 or older, or age 45 or older if African-American
  • Being overweight
  • Smoking
  • Ulcerative colitis, Crohn's colitis or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
Early detection can make all the difference. Consider the following survival rates:
  • Stage I cancers have a survival rate of 80-95 percent.
  • Stage II tumors have survival rates ranging from 55 to 80 percent.
  • Stage III colon cancer has about a 40 percent chance of cure
  • Stage IV tumor has only a 10 percent chance of a cure.
If you are 50 years old or older and have not had your colonoscopy, quit being whiney and take care of your hiney! Call your healthcare provider today and schedule your annual physical. Make sure part of your discussion includes making an appointment with one of our compassionate surgeons for your colonoscopy. No "butts" about it, colonscopies save lives!
