FVH Named Top 20 CAH

For a second consecutive year, the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) has named Floyd Valley Healthcare as a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital (CAH).  These highest ranking hospitals were selected from the Top 100 CAH list released by iVantage Health Analytics earlier this year.  Nationally, there are 1332 critical access hospitals.

The Top 20 Critical Access Hospital "winners" are those hospitals who have achieved success in the overall performance based on a composite rating from eight indices of strength:

  • inpatient market share

  • outpatient market share

  • quality

  • outcomes

  • patient perspectives

  • costs

  • charges

  • financial stability

The Top 20 was selected from iVantage's Top 100 CAH list, released earlier this year.

Those hospitals that have been recognized as Top 20 Critical Access Hospital "best practice recipients" have achieved success in one of two key areas of performance:

  • Quality index: A rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank across the five categories of Hospital Compare Process of Care measures.
  • Patient perspective index: A rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank on two Hospital Compare HCAHPS measures ("Overall Rating" and "Highly Recommend").

"On April 11, 2017 I was scheduled for a repeat c-section with Dr. Stelzer, Dr. Aquino and Dr. Parmelee, along with their surgical team. After I went in for blood work on the 10th, I was met with some news that my platelets were low and I needed to come in early on the 11th to get them re-checked before surgery.  Unfortunately, my platelets were still low the next morning. Dr. Stelzer, Dr. Aquino and Laura Real (my CRNA) came into my room to discuss all risks/options available to my husband, Justin, and me.  After hearing all options, we decided that we had total faith in our care team and wanted to stay at Floyd Valley as we felt they were prepared for anything that could happen. I've known Dr. Stelzer since birth (literally, he delivered me via c-section!). He also delivered my sister and my first-born son, Silas. Talk about having a strong bond with your surgeon! We waited a few hours until the entire care team could be there for surgery and to also get some extra platelets in to prepare me for surgery. This was a very nerve racking time for us, but we still had total faith in the care team. They made sure to stop in and check on us multiple times before surgery to make sure we were okay with our decision. The c-section then started around 2 pm and our 2nd son, Beckett, was born at 2:14 pm! Justin was thrilled to meet him! I came out of surgery shortly after to meet Beckett. What a relief to know everything went well and we were now a family of 4! I can't thank the team enough for the extra work they went through to make sure we had the best care possible. The next day, the entire team of doctors came in to see me at some time or another to check on how I was doing. It was so nice seeing all of them.  We could truly sense how much they cared about us. For the three night stay, we had the best care from the nursing staff. They were there for us no matter what we needed. I have to say I was sad to leave Floyd Valley at the end of our stay.  We cannot thank everyone enough for their support and care during such an important event in our lives. I had the option to transfer to another facility, but I feel that we made the best decision by staying at our hometown hospital where we are more than patients; we are family!"

Helping Children Benefit Golf Tournament Marks 20 Years

Mark your calendars for the 20th Annual Helping Children Benefit Golf Tournament on Tuesday, June 13th.  Tee times will be available from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Willow Creek Golf Course by calling 546-6849.  As always, there will be a great lunch served along with door, flight and hole prizes for the golfers.  FVH will even have a few extra treats to celebrate the 20th year of this great tourney.

The Foundation golf tourney was founded in 1997 and chaired by Fred and Susie Sitzmann.  The Sitzmanns were responsible for establishing many of the great traditions still used today in the tournament.  In 2004, Craig and Cristi Bauerly chaired the tournament for 10 years, turning over the reins to Jack and Kathy Frus in 2014.  All the chairs have added their own special twist to the tourney.  Since its inception, the golf tourney has raised nearly $190,000 for pediatric services at Floyd Valley Healthcare with hundreds of golfers taking part.  Thanks to the committee, sponsors and golfers for their support of such a great cause!
