Reflections from the President’s Chair:
Can we get real for a minute? Yes, I’m looking at you, the one alone at the desk, buried under tasks, carrying a full load of programs/classes/lesson plans/research projects. The one without a minute to spare, who pours their heart and soul into making their library welcoming, productive, and relevant.

ILF welcomes two new Board Members
We welcome two new ILF members to the ILF Board of Directors, who were voted to fill vacancies.
Ingrid Norris,
director of Lake County Public Library, has been a long-time member of ILF and served in various roles, most recently on the IN Public Library Association Advisory Board. She leads the third largest library system in Indiana, an award-winning library with 200+ staff across nine branches.
Rebecca Hill
, trustee with Hussey-Mayfield Public Library, started her career as an attorney before later completing an MLS. As a freelance writer, Ms. Hill has written about libraries for 11 years, including for
School Library Journal.
We welcome this passionate advocate for libraries who looks to position libraries as a place of civic engagement.
Kelly Ehinger
, director of Adams County Public Library System, assumed the position of Board Secretary after
Diane Huerkamp
resigned, which then created a vacancy for a public librarian. We thank
Diane
and
Dan Toon
, former trustee of Lawrenceburg Public Library for their service on our ILF Board.
The Board also issued a charge to an Ad Hoc Committee on Intellectual Freedom, led by
Naz Pantaloni
, III, JD, MS, PhD, who also serves on the ILF Advocacy Committee. We still would welcome 1-2 members to the committee.
The ILF Board also affirmed additional leaders on Committees and Divisions.

Indiana Librarians flying south to the ALA Conference
Scores of Indiana Librarians and staff head to the
ALA Conference
for professional development and meetings. Many of our joint ALA-ILF members are active in Committees in ALA Divisions, Roundtables and more. Our
ALA Councilor Beth Munk
will be discussing important issues on ALA's horizon as it considers how to "Do ALA Differently" for a more sustainable and effective organization for the future.
If you are attending the ALA conference,
please share your learnings or great presenter suggestions
. Tag us @ilfonline. Thanks.

LOCAL
- As shared last month, all of the school referenda on the ballot passed in May. Successful passage shows a willingness to fund education as a priority, as taxpayers voted in nine school districts. See detail from DLGF.
STATE
- Leadership changes are underway in the Indiana General Assembly. Sen. David Long will resign and take a position with Ice Miller. Sen. Rod Bray is expected to become Senate Pro Tempore. Committee leadership and membership may change.
- IN Department of Child Services received its external evaluation; Gov. Holcomb allocated $25 million from the state's surplus to address some of the recommendations. Legislative Council is scheduled to review the report on July 2.
- We are anticipating the posting of Interim Study Committee meeting dates soon. We will monitor the committees considering local and state tax matters and more. See the list of study topics assigned in May.
FEDERAL
- The FCC's Restoring Internet Freedom Rules went into effect June 11, removing regulations to treat all data equally. We continue to support the principle of internet neutrality. See summary from ALA, contact your member of the House (Senate already voted) or support the June 26 Day of Advocacy with #NetNeutrality.
- Federal budget hearings are underway. The federal funding for libraries remains stable. See ALA's District Dispatch for 6/15 update.
- The House Appropriations Committee held a markup on Labor-HHS-Education funding 6/15, and the Senate HELP Committee is expected to markup its version of the Career and Technical Education reauthorization on 6/20. Learn more through our colleagues in adult education.
YOUR CALL TO ACTION
- Invite your legislators to visit your library during summer reading or computer classes. Or invite for back-to-school events at your school or college campus. Review pages 14-19 in the
ILF Advocacy Planning Guide
or
contact us
for tips and info.
