Food for Thought?

Discussions are happening all over the United States about food systems, which center not only around nutrition and food, but agriculture, health, and economic development. On a more local level, North Dakotans are taking part in these discussions. In fact, a number of collaborations and initiatives throughout the state are already employing a myriad of different ideas to help improve the food landscape of the state.

In this month's For Discussion column, Heidi Demars, 2013 Bush Leadership Fellow, shares the story about how Bismarck residents have banded together for easier access to healthy food options by creating the BisMan Community Food Co-op.

Abby Gold, Associate Director and Extension Specialist, joins us in this month's Ask a Researcher column to describe four community-grounded strategies that enhance community food systems.
