A Message from President Judy C. Miner

judy Welcome to the spring quarter! After being home for three months recuperating from a broken ankle, I can truly say I look forward to the new quarter and am excited to continue the good work of PaRC. So many of you reached out to me over the past few months and I cannot thank you all enough for your well-wishes, words of encouragement, and healthy thoughts!

We have a busy few months ahead of us, most of which will be spent working on the Educational Master Plan (EMP), which will serve the college for the next eight years. PaRC has been charged with developing the plan and will need to work with the entire college community to ensure broad participation. The Collaborative Brain Trust has already begun interviewing community groups and will spend a considerable amount of time talking to on-campus constituencies later this month. If you haven't already done so, make sure to mark your calendars for the all day EMP PaRC retreat on Wednesday, May 13. The retreat will allow for an in-depth discussion of college goals and priorities.

Again, I look forward to our work together this quarter and will see you all at our first meeting together this Wednesday!

President
Judy C. Miner

Educational Master Plan (EMP)*
EMP The Educational Master Plan (EMP) update process has begun!

What is the EMP?

The purpose of an Educational Master Plan (EMP) is to articulate Foothill's educational philosophy, mission and vision. This document is designed to provide strategic direction in support of student learning and institutional effectiveness. Ultimately the EMP drives goals and outcomes related to instructional programs and student support services. The last EMP was written in 2010. PaRC updated the plan in 2011.

CTE Leadership Institute - FREE OPPORTUNITY for CTE FACULTY

The Academic Senate is holding a CTE Leadership Institute on May 8 - 9, 2015, at the Sheraton in La Jolla. As many of you know, this year there is an intense focus on career and technical education at the federal, state, and local level. In our CCC system, the Board of Governors has formed a task force on Workforce, Job Creation and a Strong Economy, which has been convening regional college and faculty conversations and industry town hall meetings.

President Obama's recent national challenge focuses on the dire lack of equity in America by calling for open access to higher education for all Americans though community colleges. "A college degree is the surest ticket to the middle class, it ensures you are always employable." President Barack Obama, January, 2015

This is FREE FOR ALL CTE FACULTY including your hotel room. Developed to provide CTE faculty with the opportunity to engage in key policy conversations through their interaction with representatives of the task force, by learning about the implications of policy decisions on local programs and courses, and in participating in breakout sessions to better understand the college processes including topics on leadership, curriculum design, course repetition, and effective program advocacy.

You can register here for the event and make a room reservation. Please note that you should register as soon as possible to secure a space as this free event will fill up fast! Rooms at the event hotel will not be available after April 15th.
