Winter 2014

Hello from Mahlah!

Winter has arrived! It's the season to be cozy and nurture ourselves and those we love. During the Holidays we often start "doing more". Planning and attending parties, shopping for gifts, stressing out perhaps. I encourage us all to slow down and enjoy the season.

Holiday Decor Inspiration

I am a believer in simple, elegant, and beautiful Christmas decor and gift wrapping. When possible I use greenery from outdoors and non-traditional colors like purple and pink. Try choosing specific area of the house to decorate such as a mantel or banister and avoid covering every surface. Fresh floral arrangements are a great way to add festive decor to other rooms without going overboard.

love, we need not understand the
words they say."

Healthy Home Tip

Comfort food is oh so important and nurturing this time of the year. Warm foods are proven to be beneficial over cold foods in the winter months. Slow cooker meals are a great way to prepare healthy and yummy meals that cook even while you are at work.

Daylight savings time has us coming home in the dark and chilly evenings more than we might like. Set your thermostat to come on 15 minutes or so before you are to arrive home. Have a roast or soup perking in the slow cooker and come home to warmth and good food.

On cold days bake away! Having the oven on adds warmth to the house and who can resist a fresh baked pie or ham?

Curl up with a cozy blanket and someone you love or maybe a good book. Drink warm beverages. Nurture from the inside out and stay healthy this winter.

SCM Maker's Market

The Santa Cruz Mountains Makers Market is dedicated to supporting the community by giving local artists, crafters, culinary creators, and musicians a venue to showcase and sell their goods at a regular monthly market while also financially benefiting a local non-profit, Mountain Community Resources (MCR).

This free Holiday event will be held at the Felton Community Hall at 6191 Highway 9, Felton, CA on November 29th, 2014. Show hours will be from 10am-5pm and will feature several bands. More Markets are planned for 2015,  giving local makers a regular venue to sell their creations. There is plenty of customer parking available and this location is in the center of the busiest part of Felton and the gateway to the rest of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
