Education and Ministry Highlights

2nd cup
A 2nd Cup could win $100K based on public voting!
May 10 - May 19 Vote as many times as you like!

A 2nd Cup is Houston's non-profit coffee shop dedicated to ending human trafficking located in The Storehouse (across the street). In the shop, they've created a space for awareness, conversation, empowerment, collaborating with other anti-trafficking organizations, and to connect customers to opportunities to take action. They invest in short and long-term after-care programs for survivors of human trafficking.
How the $100K will be used:
One of the biggest hurdles for survivors of human trafficking is finding viable employment. This $100K will enable A 2nd Cup to launch a coffee and culinary work program for survivors. This program will provide soft skills from resume writing and interview techniques to customer service and financial training, as well as barista, roasting, and/or culinary skills to rebuild the lives of survivors through meaningful employment.

ATTENTION VINEYARD MEN!
Breakfast - Saturday, May 20th, 8am in the Cafe
Another awesome men's breakfast is coming! Not only will you get to eat a great breakfast (still just $5), but also visit with friends and hear Leslie Kessler, a 93-year old WWII Veteran.

When it comes to the upheavals we all face, our responses have a major impact down the road. Some people respond in healthy ways and emerge stronger, while others are broken by these challenges. Kessler became a strong man of faith by putting all his trust in God through life's trials and adversities. He discovered that God's word can be an anchor of strength, guidance, and comfort in the midst of war, whether on the battlefield or in his own backyard. Come be inspired by this man of God!
Register here.

BETTER HOME NEEDED FOR REFUGEE FAMILY!

One of the families that our church members have befriended (through Houston Welcomes Refugees) needs to move to a safer location as of September 1st. The church team is asking if anyone knows of an affordable one-two bedroom apartment for $850 max including utilities. This is their current budget. This is a family of 4 with a three year old and one year old. We are really hoping that by reaching out to our church family, we are increasing the chances of finding them a better place! If you have any suggestions, please contact Evi.

WANTED: Your Newspaper Coupon Inserts and Mailers
I am an avid user of coupons and want to put your Sunday and Wednesday Newspaper coupon inserts (and mailed coupons) to good use! Not only does couponing help our household financially, but we have been able to donate items to family and friends (as well as HIM Food Pantry) from our purchases. I will happily accept your coupon inserts and keep them out of the landfills. Couponing is good for the community AND the environment! Feel free to bring them to church on Sundays, and I can take them off your hands between services. Questions or comments: Amanda Mendoza
