April is Month of the Military Child

In an effort to recognize the hard work and applaud the courage of military children, the 15th U.S. Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger established Month of the Military Child (MOMC) in 1986. The Department of Defense has deemed April as the Month of the Military Child and 2016 marks the 30th anniversary of this month long recognition.

From deployments to new schools, military children are faced with unique challenges that ordinary youth their age never experience. Their ability to adapt to present and future changes deserves our respect and admiration. It is a time to honor military youth for the important role they play in contributing to the strength of the Army Family.

MOMC also reaffirms the Army's commitment to ensuring excellence in schools, childcare and youth services as well as, providing a strong supportive environment where children can thrive.

Starting April 1st IMCOM G9 will conduct the Young Lives Big Stories contest. Military children in preschool through twelfth grade can submit drawings or written projects sharing their story on what it is like to be a military child for a chance to win cool prizes. Top prizes include an iPad, Apple Laptop, Tablet, Xbox and Wii. Submissions will be accepted through April 30th. For more details on how to enter this contest please visit their website or call CYSS at 396-8110.
