Reflections on the Cleveland Orchestra:
Strategy, Growth and the Future
How has the Cleveland Orchestra  surpassed  so many world class orchestras in growing audiences and expanding revenue?  The answer:  confronting challenges strategically.  Gary Hanson, recently retired executive director of the Cleveland Orchestra, reviewed the key decisions .  Locally, incorporating movies, opera, and ballet into traditional repertoire and creating partnerships with other organizations such as Slavic Village, Gordon Square, Tri-C, and Cleveland Playhouse has paid dividends.  Significant residences in Europe and Miami together with  local philanthropic support  have also helped to diversify the orchestra's revenue.    Bottom line:   Cleveland is by far the smallest market anywhere in the world to support a world class orchestra, an orchestra that continues to bring its extraordinary,   artistic sound to new audiences, and represent Cleveland as a unique icon of cultural and artistic excellence.

What we do and why we do it.
As Unitarian Universalists, we organize forums to "search and serve", i.e. search for answers and serve the community, an important goal for our entire congregation. The forums support personal reflection, social action, and encourage individual and collective growth.  All are invited.
