FACILITIES MASTER PLAN (FMP)

District staff, parents, Trustees, community leaders, and even students have worked together with LPA Architects, Inc. to create a detailed Facilities Master Plan (FMP).  The District's newly developed FMP identifies a vision for the next 10 to 15 years and provides a road map to coordinate short and long-range goals for our school buildings.

As the month of October comes to an end (I cannot believe Halloween is on Monday) and we move further into the school year, I continue to be inspired by the many amazing things taking place in our District. For example, our middle school instrumental and vocal music programs continue to grow, both in popularity and talent.  Additionally, teachers at every level are actively engaged in professional development and are implementing new learnings in their classrooms.  Our PTA/O groups continuously support our schools, allowing us to provide our students with an educational program that is second to none! Furthermore, our middle school counselors are engaged in building connections with the high school district to allow for improved matriculation and the development of a four-year high school plan that is created in middle school.

In addition to the great things happening in our schools, we are finding better ways to keep the community connected to what is happening in our District.  We have a robust Facebook page, an amazing and engaging website and we are using Twitter and Instagram to highlight all of the activities that take place on our campuses everyday!  Like us, follow us, and join us in celebrating the IMPACTFUL work being done at each and every one of our sites.

As always, t hank you for all that you do to support teaching and learning in our District.

Kindly,

Mark Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

HIGHLIGHT: UP! in FVSD
This year, FVSD has a penchant for using arrows in everything we do.  For us, arrows are simple indicators for how things are progressing.  And, with the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) results in for 2016, we are proud to report that the arrows are indeed UP!  Overall, SBAC results for the District note 73% of students either met or exceeded standards in English Language Arts, a gain of 4% from last year, and 68%  of students met or exceeded standards in math, a 5% increase from last year.  Moreover, the District continues to perform above both County and State averages in both ELA and math.

These results are commendable and reflect the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, support staff, administrators, parents and community members.  Furthermore, these results underscore the District's dedication to our core values of: high expectations for all; life-long learning; working collaboratively; and, ALL kids!  From every angle, Fountain Valley School District is looking ahead and moving forward, full throttle.  And, the direction of this District is clear...UP!
SPOTLIGHT: Meet Our TOSAs
2016-17 is already off to a terrific start! We are fortunate in the District to have four amazing Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSAs), all new to their positions, to help facilitate and guide our work in teaching and learning.  Lara Epling (TK-8 Instruction), Page Hertzburg (6-8 ELA), Joanna Burch (TK-5 Math) and Stephanie Rigdon (TK-5 Reading) are all tasked with helping to shape professional development.  And if our first round of professional development opportunities are any indication, 2016-17 is going to be a banner year, as our TOSAs are committed to providing the tools our teachers need to reach every student!  Moreover, their collaboration with one another, as well as with our teacher teams, is part of what will help us IMPACT ALL students!
