STAY INFORMED:
Peachjar eFlyers

Last year, FVSD began utilizing an electronic flyer distribution system, Peachjar, in an effort to improve communication, ensure a strong link between home and school, and to enhance community support and involvement in our schools. Every school, the District Office, and outside organizations uses Peachjar to distribute district-approved e-flyers to families district wide .  We are excited about the addition of Peachjar and look forward to this means of communication! FACILITIES MASTER PLAN (FMP)

District staff, parents, Trustees, community leaders, and even students have worked together with LPA Architects, Inc. to create a detailed Facilities Master Plan (FMP).  The District's newly developed FMP identifies a vision for the next 10 to 15 years and provides a road map to coordinate short and long-range goals for our school buildings.

HIGHLIGHT: Board Honors Students and Parents from Newland and Plavan Schools; Thanks Rabbi Stephen Einstein

At their meeting on January 18th, the Board of Trustees was honored to celebrate some of our amazing students!  From Newland School, the Board recognized students Manuel Guerroro (TK), Sage Hacker (K), Henri Peignoux (1st), Travis Nguyen (2nd), Benjamin Bostick (3rd), Anh Pham (4th), and Hailey Sisco (5th).  And from Plavan School, the Board celebrated Ella Islas (TK), Drago Vu (K), Serene Anderson (1st), Minh Nguyen (2nd), Audrey Truong (3rd), Hailey Tran (4th), and Katelynn Luu (5th).

In addition, the Board had the opportunity to thank some wonderful parent volunteers from these sites for their dedication to our students and staff.  From Newland School, the Board thanked Megan Bowen and Kim Louie.  And from Newland School, the Board thanked Phu Nguyen and Lynda Misajon

Prior to our recognitions, Boy Scout Den 12 Pack 1226 from Newland School did a wonderful job leading the audience through the Pledge of Allegiance.   Moreover, the Board of Trustees was able to honor retiring Personnel Commissioner, Rabbi Stephen Einstein for his more than 32 years of service to the students and staff of the FVSD as both a trustee and commissioner.

It was a wonderful evening, enjoyed by all and a great start to the 2018!  Just one more reason why #WeHeartFVSD!
SPOTLIGHT: Music in FVSD Rocks!
Instrumental Music
Music instruction provides students with so much more than just fine motor skills, the ability to read music and the like.  The hundreds of middle school students in our instrumental music programs are learning skills that will help them in every subject, and throughout their lives.

As Talbert music instructor, Kristin Cooley, explains, "Students learn time management, accountability, perseverance...they learn to aim towards excellence...take risks and build self-confidence."

Fulton music instructor, Jeremy Lamantia agrees, noting "I know that only a small fraction of my students will go on to be professional musicians, but the lessons of intrinsic motivation, discipline, focus, and hard work will stay with them forever."

If you have had the opportunity to see our middle school orchestras and bands perform, you would agree that these students have a lot to feel confident about!   Music connects these students to their schools, and contributes to each site's culture on campus and off.

As Masuda's Rob Covacevich explains, "Music brings the student community together and helps to unite our student body whenever the band performs at pep rallies, sports tournaments, and even special events such as the Veteran's Day Ceremony.  Music helps to elevate school spirit and enhances the overall educational experience."

And that is music to our ears!!
HIGHLIGHT: 2018-19 Calendar Approved by Board of Trustees
FVSD 2018-19 Calendar
At the January 18th meeting, the FVSD Board of Trustees approved the 2018-19 calendar.  We are thrilled to share this with our families and hope that getting this out early helps with vacation and other planning.  Thank you to our teams for working together to ensure that this information is available to our families in such a timely manner!

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU: LCAP Parent Survey
LCAP Parent Survey
In 2013, the State of California changed the way education is funded. School districts are required to develop a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) that includes input from students, teachers, parents, and community members on the goals, actions, and budget priorities. Please take a few moments to assist us with this important process. Your input matters!  You can access the survey through Sunday, February 25th in English or in Vietnamese
FOCUS: Our Facilities Improvement Efforts Continue!
It is with great pride that we share this update with you regarding the planning and design progress of Phase I of the Measure O HVAC Program.   The District is pleased to report that we have received DSA approval on plans for Masuda.  In addition, the District's architect has an appointment to review the revised plans for Courreges on  January 31st , and we expect final DSA approval in the next couple of weeks.   We continue to move at a rapid, but thoughtful, pace and remain on schedule to begin construction this summer!
TAG IT!: #WeHeartFVSD
Our theme for 2017-18 is We Heart FVSD, as we celebrate the caring and loving culture that is Fountain Valley School District.  We hope that you will join us in documenting your love for our students, our staff and our community by tagging your photos on social media #WeHeartFVSD.
