She loves me, she loves me not...

Dating can be such a heart wrenching process.  All the stress of trying to figure out if this is the right person to spend the rest of your life with.  Does she like me as much as I like her?  Are we compatible?  It's scary to be vulnerable and know that you might be rejected.  If you're a praying person, it drives you to your knees.  "Lord, make it clear to me!"  I remember when I was dating Deb.  We had a reached a point in our relationship where it was time take it to the next level of commitment or end it.  During that time, she took a mission trip for the summer to South Korea.  While she was gone, I knew in my heart I never wanted her to be "gone" from my life again.
Launching a new church is filled with this same kind of tension.  The stakes are even higher as people are coming to understand and engage God's grace for the first time.  Following Christ is entering a new family. At Sunlight, we have some potential barriers to overcome in knitting this family together.  We have elderly people and young people, snowbirds and full-time Floridians, Latino and Caucasian, Haitian and Hispanic, wealthy and poor, single and married.  All of these differences have the potential to make this young family very fragile--and it is!  That drives me to my knees.  Church planting and church renewal is a process that is completely dependent on the power of God and His Spirit moving through us.  Only He can shape a people for Himself out of such diversity.  The good news is I see Him doing just that, especially in our small groups. Our newest small group ranges from 20 somethings to 80 something. The group has black, Asian, Jamaican, and Caucasian.  They are forging deep friendships as they care for each other through the ups and downs of everyday life.  It is beautiful to watch God do His work in His people.
Sunlight is a very fragile family.  Pray with me that God will forge friendships that endure for eternity.  It is in those friendships that we learn what it means to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
Super Bowl Party
The Super Bowl is such a unique event in US culture.  People who ignore football most of the year will sit and watch this event.  My wife, for instance, watched the whole game! I asked her what the score was at half time and she actually knew the answer!
We have always enjoyed hosting or attending a neighborhood Super Bowl Party.  Last year, we had just moved into the neighborhood and invited some of our neighbors to come. Nobody showed up.  I was a little depressed. But I said to Deb, "Next year will be different".
This year, I was wishing we had a bigger house and a bigger TV.  In addition to family and church friends, we had two of our neighbors join us. I had such a great time, and not just because the Broncos won.  I really feel God's greatest call on our lives is to love our neighbors.  We can't really love them if we don't know them and we took on step closer to that cheering for the Broncos!
Praise & Prayer
  • Praise for a great launch for Sunlight Espanol in Port St. Lucie. Continue to pray for Pastor Juan and his wife Libna Sierra as they lead this new church.
  • Praise as we finally sold our pews after years of waiting.  Pray for the resources for new chairs which will give new flexibility and movement to our sanctuary.
  • As Easter approaches, we plan to send out another flyer, pray God will use it to bring new people to Himself.
  • Pray for our Frontline Teams as they work to welcome and incorporate new people into our family.
  • I'm including this one again from last month: Pray for protection for our core families.  The evil one does not like to see new churches grow and he will try to mess with us.
