"INSIDE OUT AND OTHER IMAGES OF THE CITY" OPENS AT LONGYEAR GALLERY

Opening this week at Margaretville's Longyear Gallery is "Inside Out and Other Images of the City" featuring the photography of Frank Manzo. The Opening Reception will take place Saturday, November 22th, from 3-6 pm.

Frank Manzo's new solo exhibit "Inside Out and Other Images of the City" includes over 50 recent new photographs. According to Manzo, "since photographs strive to capture the visual effect of the temporal changes in light that lend an atmospheric sense to a two dimensional image and the quality and changes of light inform the image, assuring that each image is unique, the challenge is to create both an interesting composition with painterly qualities that present to the viewer more than one interpretation, thus allowing one to see different aspects each time it is viewed."  In this new exhibition, Manzo's use of reflections allows him the opportunity to create multiple images in different planes. "Viewers will perceive layers of images that require scrutiny to determine what is 'inside' and what is the reflection or 'outside,'" notes Manzo. "In many reflective surfaces, the variation in the plane of the surface further breaks up the reflected image, creating an abstract composition akin to cubist paintings." 

A founding member of the Longyear Gallery, Frank Manzo has also exhibited his photographs at the Roxbury Arts Group, the Salmagundi Club, and The Catskill Center's Erpf Gallery.

Upcoming Longyear Gallery events include a closing reception for Frank Manzo's exhibition "Inside Out and Other Images of the City" on Saturday, December 13th, from 3-6 p.m. and the Longyear Gallery Annual Holiday Show from December 19th-January 12th, with the Artists' Reception on Saturday, December 20th , from 3-6 p.m.

Frank Manzo's solo show "Inside Out and Other Images from the City" will be on display from November 21st through December 15th, accompanied by a group show of works by Longyear member artists.
