It is with great excitement that I share with you that Kids For Kids Academy is applying for a 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grant with the Florida Department of Education. The purpose of the grant is to create community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high poverty, Title 1 and low-performing schools.

The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.

As Kids For Kids Academy, Jack Gordon Elementary, and Norma Bossard Elementary all meet the criteria for the grant, if awarded the grant, any students grades K-5 who attend those schools is eligible to participate.  In order to complete our application, we must do a community needs assessment.  If awarded, the program grant it will start the last 2 weeks of the summer and will continue daily afterschool and through the next 5 summers.  It will be open to 70 students attending the target school mentioned above.
We will employ state certified teachers to deliver academic enrichment activities in the areas of hands on science and math, language arts, character development, Spanish and personal fitness.  The program will also offer family engagement activities.
The summer program will include fieldtrips, academic enrichment mentioned above, and will be an all inclusive summer program.  Both the afterschool and summer programs will be 100% free to students attending the target schools.
