Letter from Laurie
Dear Friend,

With the summer season in full swing, the 35th Council District has come alive with music festivals, block parties, and countless other outdoor activities. From Fort Greene to Crown Heights,  I hope you have had an opportunity to attend one or more events  If not, there is still time to enjoy the widespread celebration of arts and culture.

In this issue of Pulse 35, you will find  important announcements, upcoming events, and updates that I encourage you to share within your networks.

During the summer months, we often see an increase in crime across the city. Public safety requires the cooperation of community and local law enforcement. August 4 is National Night Out. This annual event is an opportunity for area residents to recommit themselves to keeping their communities safe and become better acquainted with the police officers who patrol ther streets. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors!

I hope to see you on Tuesday as I traverse the district. Be safe and cool!

Yours in Partnership,
Laurie A. Cumbo
Member of the New York City Council

Crown Heights Health Fair

It was an honor and privilege to break fast during Ramadan this evening at the Nigerian American Muslim Integrated Community located at 601 Dean Street. State Senator Jesse E. Hamilton III  has done an extraordinary job at working to build community partnerships across the District and I applaud his efforts and I am proud to work with him. We were pleased to present Imam Kazeem with a proclamation for his service to the community. Brooklyn is such an incredible place and I encourage all people to experience the diversity that makes Brooklyn the greatest place on earth.
Crown Heights Health Fair

No one can hold court like Bishop Eric Figueroa of New Life Tabernacle Church. I was pleased to join Bishop and City Comptroller Scott Stringer for their Community Health Fair. I even had my Body Mass Index read as well as my blood pressure. Let's just say I have some work to do, but it's always better to know where you are so that you can start to get on the road to healthy living!

I am so proud that Moshood has been able to thrive throughout all of the changes taking place in Brooklyn, New York with the support of the community. It is so important that we support our local businesses of all cultures in order to preserve the diversity of Brooklyn.
