The Roosevelts

Ken Burns, director and producer of The Civil War, Jazz and Prohibition, presents his most recent project: The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. This seven-part documentary series follows the trials and triumphs of the Roosevelt family, from Theodore to Eleanor. The series contains in-depth research into some of the Roosevelts' most remarkable moments: from the creation of National Parks to the defeat of Adolf Hitler. The special airs from 7-9 p.m. on September 14-20 on IPTV's primary channel. Each episode will repeat at 9 p.m. the same night. Learn More

"Rapping On Science" is an engaging demonstration of how popular music and rap songs can be transformed into science lessons. Educator and rapper Tom McFadden facilitated a writing workshop at Youth Radio and got a group of high schoolers to rap about science topics like global warming and pollution. Absolute Value
Grades: 6
This animated Math Shorts video explains absolute value, as demonstrated on the number line and through a real-life example. In the accompanying classroom activity, students watch the video and then play a game in which they move a penny along a number line in positive and negative directions. As they play, they use absolute value to track the total distance that the penny moves. To get the most from the lesson, students should be comfortable determining distance between positive and negative numbers on a number line. Learn More
