Tax Season is Here; Free Help is Available!
April 15 is just a month away. Doing taxes is rarely anyone's favorite thing, but we can offer some help! AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation sessions for all Central Oregonians at the Downtown Bend Library. Stop in to learn more about tax credits and have an IRS-Certified Volunteer prepare your taxes. Taxes are prepared online, using IRS certified software and then electronically transmitted to the IRS. Certified tax volunteers will also be available to answer some of your tax questions. Walk-in sessions at the Downtown Bend Library are on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5:00 p.m. and run through April 9th. Find more info here.
Fake News? Learn to Spot It with Tips and Resources from Your Library
The ability to evaluate news sources is a critically important skill. Learn how to separate fact from fiction, and fact check like a pro using the tools curated by the Deschutes Public Library.
According to the Pew Research Center, a majority of Americans get their news from social media sites, which can make it difficult to determine the credibility of sources. We've compiled a list of tips and resources that will help you become a savvy news consumer. Find our Evaluating News Sources page here.

Library Book Clubs: A Place to Connect
We host a number of public book clubs every month. These book clubs are a welcoming place for people to gather and connect over stories and ideas---and, sometimes, to make new friends. All library-hosted book clubs are open to everyone; all you need to do is show up! See the list of book clubs in the column at right to discover what we're reading. If you have your own book club already, we can provide your club with books! Click here for more information about our book clubs as well as our book club kits, which offer you more than 200 titles to choose from, and click here to hear from some members of the Downtown Bend Library book club.
