Jose Leon-Barraza: Fresno Risks Losing Valuable Parks Site (The Fresno Bee - 11/21/15)

Ten years ago, the city of Fresno promised its residents and the National Park Service that it would construct a park over a five-year period at a cost of $13 million if the NPS donated a 49 acre site at 2155 S. Peach Avenue to the city. In 2006, the NPS accepted the proposal and donated the site. The site was previously used by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a research station.

Let's Put an End to Racial Profiling

California's prosperity depends on its young people having a fair chance to thrive and succeed - including the 70 percent of young Californians who identify as people of color. It's time California invest in the success of young people of color including putting an end to racial profiling with Assembly Bill (AB) 953.

AB 953, written by Assemblymember Shirley Weber of San Diego, will increase law enforcement transparency and accountability to communities by training police on racial profiling and implicit bias.

Help the Residents of the Summerset Apartments summerset

Residents living in the Summerset Apartments need your help! The apartment complex has been without gas for more than 10 days which means families have been left without heat or the capabilities to cook a warm meal.

Our friends at Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries Inc. (FIRM Inc.), are collecting donations of blankets, socks, heaters, water kettles, and monetary donations to help with food. Volunteers are also needed to help provide a hot meal to at least 300 individuals.

Donations are being accepted at FIRM Inc., 1940 N. Fresno Street. For more information, call (559) 487-1500
