Kernel's Korner - Volume 2, Issue 14

We would like to thank each of our amazing volunteers who came out earlier this week to help us with the popcorn sorting and distribution process! Great job guys!

We would also like to thank Seegars Fence Company, Airflow Products, Duplin Events Center, Smithfield Foods and each of their family of employees who took time out of their days and welcomed us to invade their daily operations by setting up "popcorn central" in a portion of their workspace. Thank you!!

Thank you once again too, to all of our units and Scouts who participated in this year's Tuscarora Council Fall Product Sale! As you know, the product sale is our largest fund-raiser each year, and we wouldn't be able make Scouting possible in our communities without participation from quality, dedicated units like yours.

IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES: All unit popcorn money is due to the Council Service Center by close of business on Monday, November 27th. Also, don't forget to turn in a list of your unit's sellers and their total dollar amounts sold. We will be recognizing the top district sellers at the district banquets in a few weeks, but we won't be able to do that without receiving that information directly from you.

The final day to order prizes is November 30th. Last, but not least, the final date to submit any unit commission questions/issues is
December 8th.

With questions regarding the fall product sale campaign, please contact Sarah Fernandez at 919-734-1714, or via email at Thank you!
Veterans Day 2017 - Honoring Our Veterans!

November is a time to be thankful. Of course, we celebrate Thanksgiving later on in the month. But November is also the time when we celebrate Veterans Day, and give thanks to all those who have served our great Country.

While Veterans Day originally began as a day to remember those who served in World War I (That war ended at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, so Veterans Day has always been celebrated on November 11th) it is now meant to remember those who have served in the military at any time, not just during World War I.

Veterans Day allows us to take time away from work and other obligations so that we can honor all those men and women who have sworn to defend our country. Simply saying thank you doesn't seem to be enough, and yet, that's all that many veterans have ever asked. (They deserve so much more.)

If you know a veteran, or meet one today, please take the time to say two small words that may make one big difference: THANK YOU!

Ways To Observe Veterans Day With Your Scouts.....

While many units march in local parades, or place flags and wreaths on this special day, there are other ways to help your Scouts observe Veterans Day:

* Have your Scouts write a letter to a veteran.
* Hold special unit activities at your next meeting.
* Have a Scout recite a Veterans Day speech.
* Invite a veteran to speak to your unit.
* Take the time to teach your Scouts the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

With nearly 22 million veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces living among us, chances are good that at least one of these American heroes is a family member or close friend of yours, someone in your Scouting unit, or you yourself.

Though these men and women deserve our recognition and thanks every day, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, the official day during which we honor our veterans.

With Scouting's excellent relationship with the military, thousands of Packs, Troops, Posts, and Crews across the country have been, and will be taking time to recognize veterans in their own communities tomorrow.
