                   Rev. Kathi's Message:

Somewhere along the journey that is my life, I have become a searcher. I am on the lookout for the next thing that will get me on track, bring me back what I feel I might have lost along the way: energy, enthusiasm, patience, health, my memory - you name it. I listen to people like friends, relatives, the latest "expert" on social media who promote gingko biloba or meditation or time alone in the woods - probably all great suggestions. I have tried a gratitude journal but couldn't make it a habit. I have started to use 3 different programs for meditation and not stuck with them. I had a gym membership for 3 years but realized I was only going there to chat with my new friends.

A few years ago, Greg introduced to me to concept of a daily "power hour." We were going to wake up an hour earlier and then do 3 things for about 20 minutes each - 3 things that we felt would get us started on the right foot every day. I chose to practice music for 20 minutes, do some simple stretching exercise for 20 minutes and to start each morning with 20 minutes of prayer.

I have to tell you, it felt pretty good to take that time and intentionally sit with Jesus every morning. I looked forward to waking up and I felt more spiritually connected through the day. But, somehow, I let it slip away for reasons that I cannot even recall, though I am sure they seemed logical at the time.

I think it is time to pick it up again. To spend time with my instrument (as soon as it comes back from being repaired); to spend time taking care of my physical self; and to spend time sitting with Jesus.

I will let you know how I am doing and, if you want to give the "hour of power" a try, you can let me know if you are enjoying it, too. Perhaps we can keep each other accountable and we can work on our spiritual connection together.

Shalom, Rev Kathi

If you can help, leave your donation in the basket in the narthex at the church.
  • Here are some different ways to contribute:
    • make a financial donation through your regular offering.Cheques should be made out to EMUC and clearly marked for the Deacon's Cupboard.
    • buying Fundscript cards and giving these to Mike Ogilvie to take to the Cupboard. In both cases charitable receipts will be issued.
    • if you are getting a $25 card from Loblaws as part of the bread price fixing agreement why not donate it to the Deacon's Cupboard to help support the needy in our community. Mike Ogilvie would be pleased to take your card and make sure it gets to the Cupboard. l.
