Please join us in urging our State Legislators to vote YES on HB 61, which provides a more level playing field for our bricks-and-mortar, Main Street retailers.

Please distribute the attached electronic flyer to your members with a personal message for YOUR chamber, encouraging your members to click the link on the flyer to make it easy for them to quickly contact THEIR elected officials to say:  'VOTE YES ON HB 61"

This legislation requires out-of-state online retailers to provide the state with tax information on purchasers. The state of Georgia loses over $200 million each year in unreported sales tax. Current tax policy gives an unfair advantage to out-of-state online retailers not subject to remitting sales taxes and this legislation seeks to remedy that problem.

Our hometown retailers need all the help we can give them.  Help us level the playing field for small businesses in Georgia.

This legislation has already passed the House but needs our support to get it through the Senate!

You can take action HERE!

Our hearts goes out to to the family of John Engelmann during this difficult loss. Mr. Engelmann was a longtime member of the Chamber.

Our Chamber Executive Director, Neesa Williams,  traveled to Atlanta on February 12 & 13th for the February session of Locate South GeorgiaLEADS. They heard from various State Leaders on Economic Development, Collaborative Efforts, and got a legislative update at the Capital and Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Their group of regional leaders was fortunate enough to be able to meet and take a photo with Governor Nathan Deal.

The Internal Revenue Service warned taxpayers of a quickly growing scam involving erroneous tax refunds being deposited into their bank accounts. The IRS also offered a step-by-step explanation for how to return the funds and avoid being scammed.

Following up on a Security Summit alert issued Feb. 2, the IRS issued this additional warning about the new scheme after discovering more tax practitioners' computer files have been breached. In addition, the number of potential taxpayer victims jumped from a few hundred to several thousand in just days. The IRS Criminal Investigation division continues its investigation into the scope and breadth of this scheme.

These criminals have a new twist on an old scam. After stealing client data from tax professionals and filing fraudulent tax returns, these criminals use the taxpayers' real bank accounts for the deposit.

Thieves are then using various tactics to reclaim the refund from the taxpayers, and their versions of the scam may continue to evolve.

The Clayton Jay Inn in downtown Fitzgerald has been much more than just an Inn. It's an expression of what can be done with a house to make an environment a family can thrive in. Mr. Davis built the house about 100 yrs ago using brick manufactured in the Colony City.
Beautiful stained glass is featured throughout the Inn and it is furnished with cherished antiques that have been handed down by the Jay's families with more added through a family hobby of searching antiques.
