GOAL Legislation In The News
BOSTON (WWLP) – Forty-two states allow private ownership of firearm suppressors, but Massachusetts is not one of them. Ownership could become legal if lawmakers pass a  bill filed by State Senator Don Humason (R-Westfield).

State Lawmakers are considering the bill that would remove a Massachusetts ban on firearm suppressors, or a device used to silence, muffle or diminish the noise of a firearm.

Pushback Against Anti - 2A Narrative -
Submit Op-Ed's To Local News Outlets.
It's no secret that an anti Second Amendment narrative dominates the media. It's rare to see a story about restoration of our rights that doesn't have a mention of some heinous murder, and op-eds are dominated by people who push the anti narrative.

Over the last few weeks we've been discussing this on our social media channels and we are happy to report that a couple of people have submitted well written op-eds to their local news outlets.

It's great having real info, with real statistics out there. If you feel like you are up to the task of writing a short op-ed, please do so and send it in to your local news outlet, "Wicked Local" or what have you.

Here's a couple of examples that appeared this week.

Why can’t I carry on campus?

On Nov. 13, Westfield State University went into  lockdown  after three witnesses reported seeing a suspicious man who appeared to be wearing body armor and was carrying a bulky backpack on campus. Luckily, it turned out to be a false alarm. But my friend, texting me frantically from a locked-down classroom near where the suspect was seen, didn’t know that. For all she knew, her school was about to become the next location of a mass shooting.

Sitting in class, I was terrified. All of a sudden, everything I’d seen on TV felt real, and I felt helpless. But why did I feel so powerless? Because here in Massachusetts (and therefore at the University of Massachusetts), the state legislature has  decided  that our campus should be a “gun-free zone.” As a result, students have been stripped of their Second Amendment right. New gun laws not solution to reducing violence

Recently, there have been misleading statements and unsubstantiated opinions offered about gun control in our nation.

Prior to 2008, according to the Washington Post, there were an estimated 300 million firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens. According that same source, there were more than 357 million in 2016.

Over a longer period, violent crimes, including murder, have been steadily decreasing. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the rate of violent crime dropped from 79.8 to 18.6 victims per 1,000 people age 12 and older from 1993 to 2015. Read more
Marijuana Raising Legal Issues For Gun Owners
Yikes! MA gun owners need to be very careful now that MJ is legal in MA. Remember, it's still a federal disqualifier for firearms ownership - could leave you a prohibited person for life. Congress needs to address this ASAP.

Honolulu police inform legal cannabis users to hand in their guns

Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard has mailed letters to area medical marijuana patients with registered firearms, saying they needed to give up their guns and ammo or turn them in to police — and the clock is ticking.

About 30 individuals with cannabis cards have been sent the letters so far, citing state firearm law as the reason to get rid of their guns, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser  reported .
