Massachusetts Demands Bump Stock Surrender
Commonwealth of Massachusetts Issues Letter To LTC/FID Holders Regarding Bump Stocks and Trigger Cranks - EOPSS Letter Calls For Forced Surrender.

GOAL has obtained a  letter regarding bump stocks from the  Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety, that will be mailed to all licensed MA gun owners and it is a doozy.

The letter, titled “Notice of Legislation Prohibiting Bump Stocks and Trigger Cranks” notifies addressees that the law directs EOPSS to notify gun owners about the change in law, specifically to section 18 to 21 of Chapter 110 and that the change, as of 2/1/18 makes it illegal to possess “so-called bump stocks and trigger cranks”.

Sen. Don Humason: Massachusetts Senate's crossbow hunting bill victory for sportsmen
A state Senate bill to expand the eligibility for crossbow  hunting is a victory for Massachusetts sportsmen, according to  Sen. Donald F. Humason, R-Westfield, who supports increasing hunting opportunities in the commonwealth.

"It's not often that we do something good, or at least something that doesn't negatively impact the hunters and sportsmen of Massachusetts," he said of  Senate Bill 2249, "an act relative to the use of crossbows in hunting," which was passed by the Senate on Thursday.

The bill was filed by Sen. Anne M. Gobi, D-Spencer, said Humason, who has filed similar legislation in the past. "It finally got done," he said. "I'm glad it got done with her name on it. It doesn't need to have my name on it, as long as it got passed. That's a good deal."

GOAL Note: We would like to thank everyone in the senate for their diligence with this legislation, most notably Senator Gobi and Senator Humason. The bill will now need to clear the house and various committees before heading to the governors desk. We will be sure to alert our membership if/when it becomes necessary.
H.1296 – 2A Rights Act Gaining Support
State Representative James Miceli has written a letter to the  Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security , urging them to vote favorably on,  H.1296 “An Act Relative To Constitutional Rights ”.

This important legislation creates a new section of law that provides a presumption that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual civil right in Massachusetts.

For many years Massachusetts’ courts and law enforcement entities have been confused due to the state’s poorly written laws. With a clearly defined presumption of rights, lawful citizens will be saved unnecessary harassment. Likewise the courts and law enforcement will no longer waste time and resources on lawful citizens who are simply exercising their civil rights.

H.1296 also provides protections against other government entities in the state from passing laws and regulations restricting Second Amendment rights. This helps avoid a potential patchwork of laws across the Commonwealth that causes confusion.

Public Hearing February 6, 2018
MassWildlife is proposing leash and waste disposal regulations for dogs on Wildlife Management Areas (WMA). A public hearing will be held February 6, 2018 at 7 PM at the  MassWildlife Field Headquarters , 1 Rabbit Hill Road, Westborough, 01581.

Dogs are still welcome on WMAs under this proposal.

MassWildlife took this action due to repeated complaints about negative and unsafe encounters with dogs and dog waste on WMAs.

Proposal Summary:
1.    Requires leashing dogs and other domestic animals on WMAs. Dogs may be off-leash onlywhen hunting or hunt training with licensed hunters or at permitted field trials. Leashing dogs decreases conflicts with both people and other dogs, resulting in a safer and more positive experience for everyone.
2.     Requires  picking up dog waste and disposing of it off site. Removing dog waste reduces nuisance and health risks for other dogs, people and wildlife.
