Are You A GOAL Member?

It's not unusual for us to receive phone calls from MA gun owners who are looking for guidance and are not members of GOAL.

Often times they ask "why should I join GOAL?"   The answer is simple: "our answering of your phone call and question is made possible by GOAL members".

We are more than just a resource though, we continually work to protect & restore Second Amendment freedom, we support many education efforts including our full training schedule and we proudly represent the interests of all law abiding gun owners.

GOAL President Ron Amidon Named New Commissioner of Department of Fish and Game

7/5/17

In a surprise move, the Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Matt Beaton, announced today that after two and a half years as Commissioner, our good friend George Peterson is retiring.

The announcement also included that GOAL’s President Ron Amidon has just been made the new Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game.

“For 32 years in public service, George has never waivered in his support for issues relating to our mission,” said Jim Wallace Executive Director of GOAL. “We wish him all the best of luck as he enters into the next phase of his life. We also look forward to working with Ron as he enters into this exciting new phase of his life. Ron has been a steadfast supporter of professional wildlife and wild lands management for many decades. GOAL will miss him on the Board, but the Commonwealth will surely benefit from his new position.”

The GOAL Board of Directors will be holding a special meeting sometime in July to elect a new President. Unfortunately, with the new Commissioner position Ron can no longer hold a position as officer or board member at GOAL.

Trump Bump: 2017 Big Year For Gun Sales

2017 is second biggest year for gun sales ever, might top 2016

In a welcome surprise for the arms industry, 2017 is on a pace to easily be the second biggest for gun sales ever, and could beat last year's record.

New gun background check data released Thursday by the FBI revealed that 12,601,102 checks have already taken place this year. Background checks are seen as a good gauge of gun sales, though not all sales have to go through the system and some sales are rejected.

In June, the FBI conducted 1,901,768. That is 229,717 less than in June of 2016. In May, there were more background checks conducted than in May 2016. Last year a record 27,538,673 checks were conducted. This year is likely to surpass 25 million, but current cut-rate deals could spike sales, according to industry representatives.

GOAL In the News - Suppressors

"By decreasing the overall sound signature, suppressors help to preserve the hearing of recreational shooters and hunters. It also can help to mitigate noise complaints from those who live near shooting ranges and hunting land," the Gun Owner's Action League said in a statement.

Massachusetts consumers would not be among those purchasing gun suppressors from Smith & Wesson. The commonwealth is one of eight states that does not allow consumers to use suppressors and one of 10 that bans them for hunting, according to the American Suppressor Association. Only law enforcement officers and manufacturers may handle gun suppressors in Massachusetts.

DC project putting a feminine face on gun ownership in America

Women are the fastest growing segment of new gun owners in the country.

Often missing from America’s contentious gun rights debate are the voices of law-abiding citizens who own a gun for self-protection and don’t want to make any political statement about it.

The national debate has gotten so ugly, that many of us simply prefer to keep a low profile and quietly do what we feel is right and necessary to defend our homes and family. But, for at least some of us, the time has come to have our voices heard.

Time to pass National Concealed Carry Reciprocity

It is time for there to be national reciprocity for concealed carry permits, instead of the patchwork of laws governing reciprocity that vary by state.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) have introduced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, which would allow legal gun owners and concealed carry permit holders nationwide to responsibly arm themselves no matter where they are. Responsible gun owners take self defense seriously, and these individuals have already proven that they are willing to comply with the law, by fulfilling all of the requirements associated with getting a concealed carry permit. Criminals, by definition, have no regard for laws or permits or gun free zones, and by allowing safe, responsible citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights, our communities could be much safer.
