The Festival of Arts was a huge success! It was amazing to see the crowds circulating around the building.  Families were talking about the awesome recorder and chorus performances led by Mr. Komorowski, posters designed by the students of Spanish speaking countries with the support of Senora Molina, or still trying to figure out experiments they saw demonstrated by students in Dr. Costa's room. Mrs. Huizing had Library projects on display using a variety of online resources and ExPO videos of the students creating origami creatures directed by Mrs. DeAngelo were being checked out in the Library. Families were in awe of artwork that was everywhere, thanks to Ms. Birnbaum and parent volunteers and the Let's Create Studio. Thank you to Mrs. Kelly who was on hand to answer questions about our instrumental program for third, fourth, and fifth grade students and parents. Many students were taking family members around, hoping there was still time to show off the Spheros in Mrs. Rothrock's computer lab or try-out obstacles in the Gym with Mr. Elko and Mr. Levin, or find their artwork on the wall.  Great representation of Lakeview's Related Arts Team and the incredible success the students are achieving in their classes!

Lakeview School has completed another successful year with the implementation of two expanded programs.  The programs were facilitated by members of the Child Study Team and School Counselors.  The Peer Mentoring program entitled LLL, Lakeview Lion Leaders has fostered social skills and friendships between students with special needs and general education students.  The mentoring experience has fostered self-confidence and leadership skills for our LLL. Students in grades four and five have been trained and participated in these exciting programs.   LLL worked with students in regular and special education classrooms as well as lunch/recess. They enjoyed engaging with students in preschool, Kindergarten, grades 1, 2 and 3.

The SMILE program Students Mentoring Incoming Learners for Ease has welcomed incoming students to Lakeview School throughout the school year.  The trained LLL have taken new students on tour, answered their questions & gave each student a "welcome pencil kit" filled with goodies. The kits were made by fourth & fifth graders.
Lakeview School celebrates the accomplishments of the SMILE and LLL. They affectionately refer to their mentees as their CUBS.  After all they are our Lakeview Lions.

Mrs. Perjerrey, Mrs. Abel and three of their students, Aileen Seyam, Vanessa Russo and Brooke Marino presented their Stem Kit, Kano, to the Board of Education at their last meeting. The students demonstrated their Stem Kit, Kano, which the students used to build a computer and learn the components of a computer system.Stem Kit offers immediate differential learning in its operating system so when students log into Kano, they can access all of the apps and go through walk tutorials to learn about different coding language. All apps have challenges that range from basic, to medium, to advance. Stem is important because it empowers the student to solve problems using technology which is critical for them in their future careers. It is important to weave technology, creativity and coding across subject areas in order to promote deeper learning in engaging and hands-on way. Great job!
