Expressions of interest are currently being sought from olive growers to participate in the Australian Olive Industry Benchmarking program. Funded by Hort Innovation using the olive levy, and delivered by independent consulting group RMCG, benchmarking is a great management tool to track the performance of your business and how it compares with other growers across the industry. A national online survey is being conducted by the CSIRO and the Department of the Environment and Energy, asking people with a long-term (>10 year) relationship with a piece of land to share observations about the features that have changed and those that haven’t. You need to be able to select an area (eg a farm) and complete the survey taking about 30 minutes.

A reminder that the NZ EVOO Awards will open for entries on 14 August and will close on 15 September. This year’s highly experienced judging panel includes two Italian specialists – more information here.
A condition of entry is that oils must have been certified via the Olives NZ Certification programme, so all oils intended to be entered in the NZ EVOO Awards must be submitted for testing by 18 August to ensure results are received before entries close.
Information packs for the NZ EVOO Awards and personalised entry forms will be emailed to all members who have already had oil certified or as oil is certified.

Entries are now open for the inaugural Australian International Olive Awards, Australia’s first and only global olive competition. Replacing the Australian National Olive Competition, the AOA's annual competition now includes oil and table olive entries from both northern and southern hemisphere producers. The judging panel offers a wealth of global olive competition experience, bringing together top Australian and international judges from the USA, Japan, Argentina and New Zealand. Competition will no doubt be tough, with strong interest already being shown for the new ‘international' standing of the competition. Key dates:

Closing date for both oil and table olive entries is 8 September
Winners will be announced at the 2017 AOA Conference Dinner on 10 October in Adelaide, South Australia.

Chinese purchases of olive oil rose by 17% during the first seven months of the 2016-2017 crop year, according to the Madrid-based World Olive Oil Exhibition (WOOE).
