Suburban Escape. Livonia.
Creating reasons for you to visit since 1835.

Service clubs helped build Livonia continuing to build today
Just ask the Kiwanis Club Early Risers about a few of their 2015 projects

Working to help with scraping and re-painting the wrought iron fence at The Livonia Cemetery along Farmington Road (just south of 5 Mile Road.)

Fifteen Livonia high school seniors were each awarded a $1,000 Fernon Feenstra college scholarships!

Early Riser Kiwanis Club and friends from Perrinville Early Childhood Center were out at Buckingham Park cleaning up trash and raking leaves.

On April 28th, 2015, the Livonia Kiwanis - Early Risers awarded four Clarenceville High School students with brand new laptops in honor of their  academic achievements and hard work.

Add to their community work the recognition that one of their members Melissa Pilzner was elected Lieutenant Governor and is proud to announce her Kiwanis goal for the year, "Helping hungry children."

Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.

Hometown Livonia volunteers step up to the plate in a big way

Matt Collins dropped a dime to say thank you: "Just wanted to let Livonia know that the meal packing Volunteer Registration is complete.   We have 144 volunteers signed up to help package meals for the Kids Against Hunger Coalition Event on Saturday, October 17th at St. Ediths Hall.  Thank you Livonia for your support of this Event!"

Groups supporting this annual event include Livonia Kiwanis Club, Livonia AM Rotary Club, Livonia Goodfellows, Livonia Junior Chamber, Livonia Optimists, Livonia Rotary Club, Madonna University Lions Club, Livonia Lions Club and the Daniel A. Lord Knights of Columbus.

What do YOU want to know from our Mayoral and City Council candidates regarding a #DowntownLivonia?

This week the downtown Livonia folks will be asking residents to post questions on facebook. They will then ask their followers to vote on which questions to ask the candidates.

The top 2-3 questions will then be put to the candidates and will videotape the responses to be posted on their facebook page starting October 26.

They will be selecting some of your questions to ask them!

 Here's how it works:

1) Post your questions as comments (please get as specific as you can!)

2) "Like" the questions you want to see asked ("like" as many as you'd like)

3) The top 2-3 "liked" questions as of Sun. Oct 11th) will be asked of our candidates in our #DowntownLivonia Grass Roots Candidate Forum.

4) Candidate responses will be published by Oct 26th.

Cultural heartbeat for a reason

Keep young families in town? Attract young families? The arts do it every time. Livonia has more artistic/cultural organizations setting the standard of excellence than any other hometown along the golden I-275 corridor.

If you are a candidate for office this year ask yourself one question. Have you been to a Livonia Symphony Concert (40+ years), visited the Motor City Theatre (26 years), enjoyed the Livonia Civic Chorus (51st year), or taken in a Paul's Players performance?

And we are just getting started. VAAL? Arts Commission? Music from the Heart?

LSO in concert
Saturday, October 17,  4:00 PM
 at Louis Schmidt Auditorium

This Livonia Symphony Concert is in memory of Mayor Robert Bennett and is sponsored by the Livonia Community Foundation.

In their 26th year the Motor City Theatre brings excellence to the Livonia theatre scene with every performance. If you haven't experienced theatre excellence yet purchase
a ticket today.

Paul's Players will be showcasing the Diary of Anne Frank this November 13, 14, 15. Just another example of community theatre excellence in Livonia.

Mark your calendar today as this will be a sell out again this year.
Year 51 of the Livonia Civic Chorus.

Is Livonia really going to the dogs?
You bet and it is a good feeling.

Tail Wagger's 1990, a local hometown Livonia, non-profit organization, is inviting the community to their 26th Annual Tail Wagger's Bowl on Saturday, November 7th at Woodland Lanes in Livonia. Squads are being held at 1:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and costs $25 per adult and $15 per child.

The entry fee includes 3-games of bowling, lunch or dinner with dessert, commemorative gift and entry into mystery game to win donated prizes from local business'. Grand prizes are awarded to those that raise the most money in each squad.

Strolling raffle with a chance to win prizes from the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, Michigan State, dining establishments and hotels will add to the excitement along with 50/50 drawings at all three squads.

Participants will enjoy a heart-warming day and hear the stories of our four-legged friends that overcame obstacles when placed in the care of Tail Wagger's prior to finding their forever home. It's a day of celebration where animal lovers come together to raise money to help other animals and feel good about doing it.

Founder, Laura Zain says that "Its hard to believe that 26 years later, we have grown into a name fully recognized in the community which offers programs and affordable services to animals and their owners. This single fund raising event started it all and made us what we are today and will help us continue our mission of "Helping People Help Animals".

For more information on Tail Wagger's 1990 or to register for the event visit the website at www.tailwaggers1990.org . If you have questions, contact Laura Zain at 734-855-4077 or e-mail [email protected].

Tail Wagger's 1990 is committed to helping people help animals. It is our ultimate goal to be able to support dedicated pet owners who are in need of assistance along with providing necessary funding for those animals in emergency situations.
