Only in Livonia July 31-August 1 at our historic Greenmead Village
The St. Andrew's Society of Detroit is celebrating the 166th anniversary of its annual Highland Games, the longest continuous running Scottish festival of its kind in North America, at Historic Greenmead Historical Park in Livonia. The Games are visited by people of all heritages throughout the U.S. and Canada. St. Andrew's Society of Detroit is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that produces the Highland Games.
To celebrate its 166th anniversary, St. Andrew's Society of Detroit will kick off the games with the Ceilidh (pronounced Kay-Lee) will be on Friday, July 31, from 5 to 11 pm and the 166th Annual Highland Games on Saturday, August 1 from 9 to 8:30 pm.
This year's Games will feature a delightful combination of Scottish history, pageantry, athleticism and good old-fashioned Celtic fun. Some of the many scheduled activities include:
* Heavy athletics professional invitational
* Solo bagpipe and bagpipe band competitions
* Drum major and drumming competition
* Highland dance competition
* Tug O'War competition
* Wee Bairns Games for children ages 4-11
* Two entertainment tents - featuring Seven Nations, Stone Clover, Albannach and Ed Miller
* Genealogy and clan tents

The concept of the Park It Family Fun Tour started 7 years ago in Macomb County by two entertainment and marketing promoters. It all started at the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre and has now expanded throughout Michigan and into Ohio as well.
But most importantly it has expanded to Livonia in partnership with our Livonia Parks and Recreation Department.

Fall (technically it is still summer but hey, Greenmead Folks want to call it the Fall) Flea Market is all set for Sunday, Sept 13 from 10:00-4:00. The Spring Flea Market was a huge success so mark your calendar to enjoy the summer/fall transition at Greenmead. You just can't beat it. Adult admission is only $2.00.
Livonia Cemetery Walk on Sunday, Sept 20 3:00 - 6:00. The Livonia Center Cemetery will be featured this year. First tour starts at 3PM, last tour starts at 6PM. This is a ticketed event. Advance tickets available at Greenmead. A limited number of tickets will be available on the day of the cemetery walk.

 Newly appointed member of the Zoning Board of Appeals Jim Baringhaus is inviting you to attend the Livonia Greenleaf Commission on Sustainability Community Conversation on Recycling to be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 at the Livonia Civic Center Library.
Share your ideas for enhancing the refuse collection and recycling process in the City of Livonia. This event will be a participant driven forum designed to gather feedback from city residents on this important community topic.

 Sorry candidates but the typewriter had so much fun looking at the unique offerings we have in Livonia to include with this issue that all the flyers in the mail from: Eileen McDonnell, Susan Nash, Dennis Wright, Lynda Scheel, Tim Klisz, Scott Bahr, Brett Gierak, Brian Duggan and Cathy White are still sitting here waiting for consideration.
 9 campaign flyers in one day. Must be a record. At least for the typewriter it is.
Jim Jolly can be excused for not hitting the mail box with his literature as on June 30 Katie and Jim became the proud parents of James David (JD) Jolly. Beats campaign literature every day of the day.
