Education Update

Grand Cay Camp a Success!!
Campers standing in a promise circle. Each camper shared their pledge of how they would help the environment.

Over 41 students attended the three day camp. They learned about their home environment through fun, hands on activities. We were able to add a boat and beach day this year with the help of Grand Cay resident, Stevie Russell and campers were treated to lunch prepared by Maxine Cephas.

Here are some exciting education opportunities available for Fall 2017!

Island Investigators, Nature Detectives

School Presentations and Field Trips
FRIENDS will coordinate a fun and educational experience for your class. Topics focus on Bahamian ecosystems and species and complement the Bahamian school curriculum. Contact our education officer, Cassandra Abraham, about tailoring an experience for your class.

Field Courses
Schools traveling from other islands and countries are hosted at the Frank Kenyon Centre for 2-3 day courses which incorporate multiple field trips, presentations, and lab experiences. Topics may be selected from our course catalogue and tailored to suit  your  class.

International Coastal Cleanup
Join volunteers from all over the world  working  towards cleaning up marine debris, making our seas cleaner and safer! FRIENDS is the local coordinator for the International Coastal Cleanup. All data collected is submitted to The Ocean Conservancy to assist global decision making about marine debris. Organize your own cleanup or contact FRIENDS for info on where to join a cleanup. International Coastal Cleanup day is September 16, but you can contribute data anytime between September and November. More about coastal cleanups in Abaco.

Abaco Science Fair
Primary and secondary schools from across Abaco are invited to participate in this science fair themed "Exploring the value of marine resources". The fair will be held at New Vision Ministries in Marsh Harbour on Thursday November 16th.   More details here.   Enter your class project here (Deadline Oct. 27th).
