Newsletter - Heading towards Thanksgiving

It's been an interesting week.

Whether your candidates won or lost, whether you are feeling vindicated or worried, Americans are at our best when we work together. That's what libraries are for - public places that welcome all where ideas can be explored and people can discuss, plan, dream. Or get away from it all, if that's what they prefer. Community spaces and oases for respite. Stop by any time.

This coming week will be interesting, too - for many different reasons. It's probably the most diverse week of programs we have ever put together. We get off to a mysterious start with Wisconsin ghosts on Monday and author Patricia Skalka ( Wisconsin-based mysteries) on Tuesday.  Things take a tasty turn Thursday evening when Katie Gellings (UW-Extension Family Living Educator) shows us how to make our own small-batch jerky. And Saturday morning brings my personal hero Rebekah Weiss to the library for a 10:00 program on birds of prey. Beka is a wildlife rehabilitator, specializing in birds, who founded Aves Wildlife Alliance seven years ago. She and her team of volunteers have helped about 2400 wild patients since 2010. Stop by for Aerial Predators and I think you will agree - she is making a clear difference in the world.

Throw in the rest of our usual programming - conversations to cursive writing, knitting to circuitry - and there should be something for everyone. Just the way this librarian likes it.

See you soon!

Wisconsin Ghosts and the Afterlife

Author Terry Fisk returns to the library on Monday evening, November 14, to discuss Wisconsin Ghosts and the Afterlife in a 6:00 program. Terry is a paranormal investigator for Unexplained Research, LLC and a noted authority on death and the afterlife. Terry co-hosted The Unexplained paranormal radio talk show and directed The Unexplained television series. He has investigated hauntings throughout the country.

Terry has been featured in hundreds of radio interviews, TV appearances, and newspaper articles. He is also the co-author of the Road Guide to Haunted Locations book series. We are pleased to welcome him back to Green Lake.
Author Patricia Skalka visits the library on Tuesday, November 15th.
Door County Mysteries

Mystery author Patricia Skalka may be based in Chicago, but Door County is where her heart lies. So it was only natural that her best selling books would be set in that enchanting Wisconsin place. But who knew there would be so many murders? Good thing Sheriff Dave Cubiak is on the case(s).

You can ask Patricia that yourself on Tuesday evening, November 15th, when she visits for an author talk at 6:30. Patricia's latest Door County Mystery, Death in Cold Water, was published by the University of Wisconsin Press just last month. This time around the Packers also figure in to the plot.

Death in Cold Water is the third book in the series. ( Death Stalks Door County and Death at Gills Rock are numbers one and two.) The library owns all three, and they have been well received by our readers. So much so, in fact, that all are currently checked out! Come hear what all the reader enthusiasm is about, and perhaps pick up a book or three of your very own. A book signing will follow Patricia's presentation.
Save a Seat for Me!
The library continues to raise funds to help pay for comfortable, multi-function furniture in our new meeting room/program space in the lower level. When you are deciding where to spend your money this holiday season, please consider making a tax deductible gift to the Caestecker Public Library and our "Save a Seat for Me!" campaign. Sixty-five of your friends and neighbors have already given over $6000 in the three weeks since we started this fundraising drive. We have received gifts from $10 to $500 - and we appreciate them all. But we still have a long way to go. Can we count on your support?
