Yemen Blues

Lincoln Center Out of Doors and Aug 4, 8pm @ City Winery the annual free festival of music and dance presents Yemen Blues. Organized by charismatic Israeli-Yemenite singer Ravid Kahalani and composer/bass player Omer Avital, Yemen Blues is a super group of top musicians form New York, Israel and Uruguay that creates the ultimate African groove by combining West African soul and American blues and jazz with the traditional music and chants of Kahalani's Yemenite roots. Yemen Blues closes out a concert that also features renowned Malian singer Khaira Arby and the N.Y. debut of UkanDanZ featuring Ethiopian-born Asnake Guebreyes fronting a Western quartet.

The Alaev Family
Aug 8, 7:30pm @ Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park Lincoln Center Out of Doors, the annual free festival of music and dance, presents the U.S. debut of The Alaev Family, a Bukharin groove band from Israel with deep roots in the music of Tajikistan and Jewish Bukhara. Playing as many as nine drums, Allo Alaev leads the family ensemble of two sons and four grandchildren. The Alaev Family opens the evening on a shared bill with acclaimed classical Indian Carnatic violin master Dr. L Subramaniam's "Global Fusion" program.For more information, please click here or call 212-875-5766

TheaterCan presents "Dogs"
Aug 16 and 24, 6pm @ New Ohio Theater 
A theater director sets out to create an Arab-Jewish Romeo & Juliet musical. When five men come together to work on the show, the rehearsal room becomes a battlefield and the production threatens to be a hysterically spectacular disaster. This event is a part of the New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC).

TheaterCan presents "Honest"- A Monodrama in a Pub
Aug 16 and 26, 3pm @ Huron Club at the Soho Playhouse 
Have a drink at the bar and meet Dave, a young civil servant who's always brutally honest. After a few drinks at the pub, Dave is ready to share his hilarious views on life and the dramatic night that everything changed.
