This June is especially bittersweet for us at 4Cs. As we prepare to celebrate the 10th graduating class of Bright Future Early Learning Center students, we are sad to say goodbye to all of Bright Future students, families, and teachers. Located in the Elihu M. Harris State Building in Downtown Oakland, Bright Future Early Learning Center has been operated by 4Cs since its inception in 2006 and educated hundreds of students ages 0-5 years old. 4Cs will cease operation of this site effective June 30th. Beginning July 1 the program will be operated by Oakland State Building Kids Corporation.
While the center will continue to serve the current families and children, 4Cs will miss the smiling faces of the children, warmth of the staff, and caring, nurturing Bright Future and State Building community.
Before we hand over the keys, I have to thank the teachers and Bright Future Early Learning Center's Director, Laura McNair, for their 10 years of unwavering dedication to 4Cs and the past and current children and families who have flourished in their care. Congratulations and good luck to Bright Future's preschoolers who will be walking the stage next week - cheers to the next chapter!

Congratulations CCIP Graduates
24 Complete Program
Pictured below are the 24 Family Child Care Providers and 3 staff members who attended the recent end-of-year celebration dinner for the Child Care Initiative Project (CCIP). These participants completed a year of training and support to enhance their family child care businesses. Some of them opened new businesses, others improved their existing business practices; all increased the quality of care they provide for children. We congratulate them for their hard work and dedication.
Now Enrolling New CCIP Participants
Beginning in July, 4Cs will start enrolling new participants for the CCIP project year 2016-17.

Drowning Prevention Reminder
As the weather heats up, swimming pools, lakes, and water parks become a welcome respite from the warm summer sun. According to the
Department of Developmental Services
n California, drowning is a leading cause of injury-related deaths among children under the age of five." You can help prevent drowning and save lives! Print, post, and share drowning prevention posters in English and Spanish, educate yourself on swimming pool safety and drowning prevention, and never leave a child alone near water, even for a few seconds.
Avoiding Heatstroke in Cars
Did you know that in 80
°F weather a car can go from 80° to 123° in just an hour? On average, a child dies in a car due to heatstroke every 9 days. You can prevent this from happening to children in your care or to children in cars around you by staying diligent in following the National Safety Council's safety recommendations:
- If you see a child unattended in a vehicle call 911
- If a child is missing, check nearby pools first and then vehicles, including trunks
- Establish a routine to "Look Before You Lock"
- Put something you will need at your final destination in the back seat
- Teach children that vehicles are not play areas
- Always lock your vehicle when not in use
- Keep keys and remote devices out of children's reach
- Establish a plan with your child care provider to call if your child is absent
- Have a partner agree to call at a specified time to make sure your child was taken to day care as planned, especially when outside of your regular daily routine
- Use drive-thru services when available and pay for gas at the pump
