September, 2016 - In This Issue:
From the Desk of Our Executive Director
September brings a new school year, changes in schedules and weather, and, this year, a shift in the political climate as election season is upon us. If your mailbox is anything like mine, it is inundated with shiny fliers encouraging me to vote "Yes on" this or "No on" that. Vote for him not her, or her not him, on local, county-wide, state-wide and federal levels. If you're as confused as I am, I empathize! This year, there are 17 statewide ballot measures, many local measures  and elected officials to decide on and, of course, the President and Vice President of the United States. With so many choices to make, the decisions can be overwhelming. However, with the privilege to vote comes the power to speak for ourselves and our children. Voting is one of the most direct ways that we can make an impact on legislation, legislators, and our future. So, if you have not yet, register to vote by October 24th, read up on the issues and legislators in your area, and VOTE - your community and children will thank you.

Be Well,

Renee S. Herzfeld

New Law Affecting Child Care Centers and Family Child Care Homes
A Reminder from Community Care Licensing

Beginning September 1, 2016, a person shall not be employed or volunteer at a child care center or a family child care home unless he or she has been immunized against influenza, pertussis, and measles. This new law applies to any person who provides care and supervision to the children.

Each employee and volunteer shall receive an influenza vaccination between August 1 and December 1 of each year. Employees, including teachers, and volunteers at child care sites must still establish that they are in good health through a public health screening that includes a tuberculosis test.
The child care center or home must maintain documentation of the required immunizations or possible exemptions from immunization, in each person's personnel record that is maintained by the child care site.

For more information contact Community Care Licensing at 510-622-2602 or visit the CCL website..
