The Jewelry Artist and Fashion....How Much Do YOU Take Notice of Fashion and Color Trends?

This Dolce and Gabbana gown, featured in Vogue, looks a bit like our altered art.    A lovely princess gown, adorned all about with vintage ballet programs.

Read more about it here:

http://www.vogue.com/9286393/dolce-gabbana-alta-moda-spring-2015-couture/

About now some may be saying, why would I want to read about it?   I am a jewelry artist.  And who is Dolce and Gabbanna.

Dolce and Gabbana's official website:

http://www.dolcegabbana.com/

This is high fashion, couture.....ART.    What sort of jewelry would you design to go with a dress like this?

It would be fun, but it wouldn't sell to the person on the street and NEITHER WOULD THIS DRESS.

So why go there?

VOGUE magazine was originally published, if memory serves, in 1899.   There is even an online archive you can subscribe to, where you can actually look up EVERY published issue (warning, it's costly, but it's available).   While being primarily a magazine that promotes clothing style, it also features great accessories and ever since the beginning famous jewelry designers have appeared in the pages of Vogue.

Some of them are folks I have known, most of all for me, the amazing and inspirational Wendy Gell   Wendy's influence has figured prominently in my own jewelry game.   It delights me to say she's a friend and a customer at B'sue Boutiques

Bridal cuff by Wendy Gell.

There is the expression, 'you can't fight fashion.'   That's because even though most of us buy our clothing off the rack, and some of us haunt thrift and vintage stores for what goes in our closet.... nearly every trend started with a designer that was singled out by the editor of VOGUE magazine.   You can't fight it.   It's the way of things.

The unique thing about VOGUE is that it is not simply a report about which celebrity wore what, where.  It is a fashion forecaster.   What you see in the pages of VOGUE are the things that are COMING.

As jewelry artists who want to sell our work, we need to know what is coming along.    I got the copy of Vogue Italia at Barnes and Noble over the weekend, the December issue has an Accessories supplement.   It is AWESOME!   I saw so many ideas I felt energized.  I have it all dog-eared already.

To subscribe VERY INEXPENSIVELY to VOGUE  (it's almost a big why not):

https://subscribe.vogue.com/subscribe/vogue/91529?source=msn     six issues for six bucks!

We've been talking ALOT about the influence of fashion and whether it should have anything to do with an artisan jeweler's work at the Build a Line Challenge Class.

I will have some class notes on that posted at the B'sue Boutiques Creative Group  soon

At Bohemian Vibe  our sister polymer clay group, the subject challenge was a marvelous PDF from our mentor, Christi Friesen.

Since only eight got to complete the project, we are going to go on for another month....so you'll want to come and join us and give it a try.

Pamela Anger of Novegatti Jewelry at Facebook got her piece done:

Beautifully done and very clever too!

Cindy Peterson won the prize from Christie and I; we had just enough make pieces and finish that we could do a drawing.   I look forward to many more beautiful ideas this month.

Speaking of Cindy Peterson (Howling Dog Jewelry at Etsy)  check out the faux turquoise jewelry she made:

Doesn't that look POSITIVELY REAL?   She used rusty black components with it, which she distressed to reveal the copper fused layer under the dark brown-black.

Here is a piece I made with Rusty black and some other of our plated components, some time ago:

We still had new rusty black pieces going up and soon hope to receive some more shipments.   It is one unique type of brass, that's for sure!

Here is a beautiful bracelet made by Heather Pederson Dinius of HAVE FAITH designs:

Heather is an excellent designer who rapidly developed a solid following at Facebook.    I am always thrilled when she shares something with us made from B'sue Boutiques components.

Lauren Bell made some SWEET little earrings from some of those darling little charms I have in the bonus bags (along with some silverware stampings!---see the perks box for more details!)

Lauren wanted to join us for the Build a Line Challenge but got accepted to a very big Steampunk show in May.

We will be excited to hear how her preparations go and how the show turns out.

Jan Peters of Stylized Vintage shared this statement cuff with us:

Jan is participating in the Challenge Class this go-round.

I loved what Bev Sedy did with our components....shared this week on the Creative Group:

I love the cream pearls with the Old Rose Ox findings from B'sue Boutiques.

Margo Horowitz made this beautiful Victorian style necklace:

Margo, of BeadLady5, always does an amazing job of putting a piece together.

Why don't you come and join us and show us what YOU are doing with components from B'sue Boutiques ?

Monica Rangne of Mocki Design at Etsy has a way with our components....

There is hardly a week that goes by that I don't promote her photos on my Gallery of Inspiration, at Pinterest, or here in the newsletter.

This week she pulled out all the stops with new ideas on how to 'work' those Alex and Ani style wire bracelet forms we carry:

http://www.bsueboutiques.com/category-s/1843.htm

That's three worn at once.  More pix:

And then....

separated a bit on the arm:

Just gives me a whole new concept of those bracelet forms!

And something pretty from Renee Hong of Fine and Dandy Jewelry:

Gorgeous colorization and pairing.

It's never a bad idea to make matching earrings to go with a necklace, either.

TRY IT....and see if your sales don't increase!   I've gotten into the habit of trying to do a little something to go with my necklaces lately.

I still have to finish the ones on my worktable....and make my Secret Garden necklace!

Be sure to stop by the website and see what's new:

and what has restocked!
