Ronald McDonald House Houston
Welcome!
From Leslie's Desk
Leslie Bourne, Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the inaugural issue of our quarterly online newsletter "From Our House to Yours." As part of our Ronald McDonald House Houston family, we want to share with you happenings at the House, stories about our wonderful House dog Mogie®, and new things that we have in store.

When we opened our doors 31 years ago we were one 21 bedroom House with a schoolroom. Today we represent a 50 bedroom Holcombe House; we still have the schoolroom, along with Houses inside Texas Children's Hospital and Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, and five additional locations inside our partner hospitals within the Texas Medical Center campus.

Hospital Programs Continue to Grow!
TCH Pavilion for Women Family Room

Since May of 2001 when the very first Ronald McDonald House Houston Family Room opened inside of Texas Children's Hospital, our Hospital Programs have successfully grown operations to include partnerships with two more highly respected hospitals: Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital and most recently, the Children's Cancer Hospital at M.D. Anderson.

Hospital Programs operate within the walls of the hospitals, offering support to families with seriously ill children just a few steps away from where their child is being treated. Whether it is a newborn transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care unit, a teen rushed in for treatment in the Pediatric ICU or a child going through cancer treatment, Ronald McDonald House Houston is there to offer a home away from home.

Meet Mogie®

Mogie

Dear RMH Houston Family,

I love my job! I get to play, cuddle, watch tv and nap with lots of children every day while they stay at the Ronald McDonald House Houston. They come from all over the world, so I get to learn many new languages. Everyone is happy to see me when they arrive here because I make them feel really welcome. My job is to help them relax and feel at home even when they are scared and don't feel well. Everyone enjoys a big hug, wagging tail and a loving lick as needed. Sometimes I get tired because there are so many children and parents who need attention but it feels really good

when I see them smile and forget their troubles while we are together. I've been living at RMH Houston for four years now, and I can't wait to see what the next ones bring!

Love and big sloppy kisses,

Mogie®

Family News
Meet the Richerson Family

KJ is just your average kid. You can find him around the House many days playing with his Power Rangers action figures or chatting away about his love of Star Wars. He is like any other boy, except KJ is battling brain cancer.

Jane radiates Southern charm at Ronald McDonald House Houston. She's a strong supporter for her son while he's going through his chemo treatments and an incredibly positive person to be around.

Although being far from their home in Kentucky, KJ's dad, their church and their support system, KJ and Jane are a joyful family staying with us at RMH Houston.
