Pastor's Message

Ever have conflict in your family? I'm trying to think of a family I've known where there hasn't been any conflicts, but I don't think they exist.

The Bible is filled with fractious families where children don't get along, where parents act dishonorably or unethically and, even where violence (sexual and otherwise) is acted out.

People sometimes think the Bible is not relevant to modern life, but it's filled with examples of people struggling terribly to resolve anger and conflict and find God's will and healing power.  We'll talk Sunday about one of the great sibling rivalries in the Bible: two brothers, Jacob and Esau.

 Looking Ahead: July 2014

Looking Ahead to July and August

During July, PVUMC is going green. We encourage you to take advantage of the downloadable versions of our Looking Ahead and worship bulletin, and invite you to recycle your monthly bulletin if you choose to take a paper one on Sunday. Included in the Looking Ahead are hyperlinks, which provide more information to you just by clicking on them. Try it out!

PVUMC still offers many small groups, service opportunities and three worship services every Sunday during the summer. We extend a special invitation for you to join us at our new 11:15 am alternative service in the Chapel. Ignite, Transform and Connect with God and others in a spirit-filled celebration, led by our new worship leader, Matt Lombardi.

Faith & Film Series: TED Talks

Adults and youth (9th-12th grades) are invited to explore themes of faith and religion after listening to TED Talks.

Junior High Retreat

PVUMC is hosting a Junior High Retreat at Mingus Mountain Camp, August 29-31 (Labor Day weekend). We are extending the invitation to all the UMC churches in the Valley of the Sun, but would like our own junior high group to register as soon as possible. To find out more and to register, click here. If you register by August 4, the cost is only $100/person. Friends are welcome!

Worship at PVUMC

This July, we have a new look for our Paradise E-News, and a new monthly bulletin that includes both the Order of Worship and our Looking Ahead. As always, the bulletin has been published online at our website, and if you have a smart phone, you can view it during worship. We also encourage you to go to our website to view our events calendar, get more details about programs, and subscribe to the weekly Paradise E-News to see what's happening at PVUMC every week. We also publish back issues of the E-News, Looking Ahead, bulletins and Desert Scroll, our bimonthly newsletter. The August/September issue is available online now, and later this month in the kiosks on campus.

For the month of July, we will use the same bulletin for all three services:

8, 9:30 and 11:15 am Worship (8 and 11:15 am in the Chapel; 9:30 am in the Sanctuary). We encourage you to look at the screens to fully experience worship.

Please note that our 11 am worship service has moved to a new time and place. We invite you to join us at 11:15 am in the Chapel, for this distinctive alternative to our 8 and 9:30 worship services. We encourage you to participate in this service and pray that you leave challenged and re-energized to ignite, transform and connect with God and others in the community. If you would like to join us for a time of prayer before the service, join our small group at 11 am in a room near the Chapel. Please look for signs. All are welcome. Invite a friend!
