More than 200 Participants Attended VIP Candidates Forum
Many thanks to everyone who attended PVUMC's hosted event with Valley Interfaith Project last night. The Candidates Accountability Forum held in PVUMC's Fellowship Center drew a crowd of nearly 245 participants. Thank you for supporting our church community's efforts to encourage government support of public education, healthcare, job training and development.

Pastor's Message

We live in a world where we can almost always get any information we want at almost any time we want it. Traffic conditions. Restaurant reviews. Resolutions to arguments over obscure movie quotes. Just about anything.

Unfortunately though, that access to information goes both ways, and we can become so inundated with bad or depressing information that sometimes it is all we notice anymore. Left unchecked, we can wind up in a strange place without even realizing how we got there. It's the point where some might be so overwhelmed by all the bad news that they can't help but do something while others are so overwhelmed that they just can't motivate themselves to do anything. But no matter what group we fall into, many of us are just shrugging our shoulders asking, "So, what's the good news?"

Looking Ahead - August 17, 2014

This Sunday at 9:30 am we dedicate our new and returning acolytes: John Cole Lomax and Ridge Peterson (returning); and Brolin Cox, Hayden Brecheisen, Zachary Johndrow, Luke LaMont, Frank Lomax, Noelle Peterson, and Kaitlyn Topp (new).

Our Looking Ahead has been updated and includes links to blog posts and other information to keep you up-to-date on everything happening at PVUMC. It also includes our intercessory prayer list and an announcement about Dr. Kevin Leman, our special speaker for National Back to Church Sunday on September 21

Campus Map and August Activities

We have an updated campus map and information sheet for you this month. While we offer many more activities than are listed on this interactive resource, this provides some highlights of PVUMC's active faith community, particularly as we start up so many of our children's and youth programs to coincide with the school year. Download your copy of the map here, and explore the website by clicking on the links to find out more details.

Junior High Retreat

PVUMC is hosting a Junior High Retreat at Mingus Mountain Camp, August 29-31 (Labor Day weekend). We are extending the invitation to all the UMC churches in the Valley of the Sun, but would like our own junior high group to register as soon as possible. To find out more and to register, click here. If you register by August 4, the cost is only $100/person. Friends are welcome!

Worship at PVUMC

Our bulletin for the 8 and 9:30 am worship services is published online at our website. Our new 11:15 am worship celebration is briefly outlined there as well, but the service is designed to be "bulletin free." We encourage you to use the screens to follow worship both in the Chapel and in the Sanctuary. If you prefer having the full order of worship, you may download your copy for the 8 am service here or for the 9:30 am service here

If you have access to a computer, tablet or smart phone, you can go to our website to view our events calendar, get more details about programs, and subscribe to the weekly Paradise E-News to see what's happening at PVUMC every week. We also publish back issues of the E-News, Looking Ahead, bulletins and Desert Scroll, our bimonthly newsletter.

The August/September issue is available online, and in the kiosks on campus.

Please note that our 11 am worship service has moved to a new time and place. We invite you to join us at 11:15 am in the Chapel, for this distinctive alternative to our 8 and 9:30 worship services. We encourage you to participate in this service and pray that you leave challenged and re-energized to ignite, transform and connect with God and others in the community. If you would like to join us for a time of prayer before the service, join our small group at 11 am in a room near the Chapel. Please look for signs. All are welcome. Invite a friend!

FMSC SUMMER PACKING

UMOM LEGACY TILES

The UMOM Community Legacy Tile Wall will be installed in November, so all orders must be placed by August 31, 2014. This is a great way to show your support for UMOM.
