We hosted our Third Annual “Keeping Our Brightest Stars” University Legacy Scholarship Dinner at the Kimpton Rowan Hotel in Palm Springs on April 11. This year we honored Al and Cathy Annexstad as the “Brightest Stars in the PDC Constellation.” They are outstanding supporters of education through their thousands of scholarships to truly deserving and high-performing students. They have now provided two full-ride, four-year scholarships to our students at the Palm Desert Campus. Guests at the event also heard from this year’s freshman Legacy Scholars. The emcee for the evening was our very own Patrick Evans from CBS Local 2.
Our 19 th Annual Golf Classic was held at Stone Eagle Golf Club on April 23 - thanks to the generosity and support of Nick Coussoulis. The event was well-attended and all proceeds will benefit student scholarships – which are matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis with Pathways funding from OneFuture Coachella Valley. The major sponsor of the tournament was Rabobank (thank you Keith Goff!) and the day was filled with fun things to do both on and off the course. It was a successful fundraiser for the Palm Desert Campus!
The campus hosted the 10 th Annual Water Resources and Policy Initiatives (WRPI) Conference on April 6 entitled, “Changing the Path of Waterways: The Unforeseen Consequences.” The conference was well-attended and also featured a tour of the Salton Sea.
We said farewell to our development director, Shawn Shepherd, as she accepted a new position as development director for the west coast for the American Farmland Trust. Shawn left us a great development baseline in the form of new supporters and donors from which we will continue to grow. We have begun a search to find a new development director for the Palm Desert Campus. As plans solidify for the search and for replacing her on an interim basis, I will keep you informed about our progress. We wish Shawn well in her new adventures. Her enthusiasm for PDC and her infectious laugh will be missed by all of us.
On the student activities front, our women’s soccer team is undefeated! Go Yotes! In addition, we are preparing for our largest graduating class ever. As it looks right now, there will be more than 300 students graduating this June. I hope to see you on campus for any of our events in the coming months!
